DENISON,
WEDNESDAY..........JUNE u,‘ 1873.
The resources of Egypt, especially
its production of cotton, have been
generally but little understood, and
consequently the natural wealth of
the country lias not been appreciated.
The crop for the past year is esti-
mated at 200,000,000 pounds. The
Egyptian government, lully ^ im-
pressed with the importance of the
cotton crop to Egypt’s prosperity, is
turning its attension to the improve-
ment of the cotton lands, every year
opening new channels to facilitate ir-
rigation, employing steam pumps for
that purpose, and doing all in its
power to make the cotton crop a
source of continual prosperity.

During the war several English
gentlemen, who sympathized with
the Southern cause, united in the ef-
fort to procure a monument to Stone-
wall Jackson, who fell at Chancel-
lorsviile. The monument has lately
been completed. It is ot Bronze,
and of heroic size, representing the
hyro standing in a favorite attitude
of absorbing thought. The statue
will soon be forwarded to Virginia,
and placed at some point not yet de-
termined, on the consecrated soil ot
Jackson’s home and grave.—>- Jeffer-
