AN ORDINANCE DEFINING
THE VARIOUS KINDS OF GAR-
BAGE, REGULATING THE
KINDS AND SIZE OF RECEP-
TACLES IN WHICH TO PLACE
SAME, THE MANNER OF ITS
PREPARATION; AND PRE-
SCRIBING A PENALTY.
Be it ordained by the City Coun-
cil of the City of Palacios, Texas:
Section 1. This ordinance shall
be known as the “garbage ordin-
ance” of the City of Palacios,
Texas. The word “premises” as
used in this ordinance shall be
taken to mean business houses,
boarding houses, offices, theaters,
hotels, restaurants, cafes, eating
houses, tourist camps, apartments,
sanitariums, rooming houses,
school, private residences, vacant
lots and all other places within
the city limits of the City of Pa-
lacios, Texas, where garbage, trash
or rubbish accumulates in ordin-
ary quantities.
The various kinds of garbage
shall be defined as follows:
(a) By the term “kitchen gar-
i bage” as used in this ordinance
j | is meant, dry kitchen refuse, all
* meat, vegetable and fruit refuse,
small dead animals and dead fowls,
from any premises within the city
limits.
(b) By the term “dry kitchen
refuse” is meant the solids after
the liquid or slop has been drained
off.
(c) By the term “trash” a^
used in this ordinance is meant
paper of all kinds, rags, old cloth-
ing, paper containers, old rubber,
pieces of wood, boxes, barrels,
crates, feathers, weeds, grass, tree
limbs from any premises within the
city limits.
(d) By the term “rubbish” as
used in this ordinance, is meant
tin cans, bottles, glass, scraps of
iron, tin, wire, or any other metals
from any premises within the city
limits.
Section 2. It.shall be the duty
of every person/ firm or corpora-
tion owning, managing, operating,
leasing or renting any premises,
or any place where “kitchen gar-
bage” accumulates, to provide a
portable garbage can constructed
of galvanized iron, tin or other
suitable metal, with two handles
and a tight fitting cover of a capa-
city not less than five gallons nor
over thirty gallons, and the daily
accumulation of kitchen garbage
and dry kitchen refuse shall be
placed in this garbage can.
Section 3. Any person, firm or
corporation violating any of the
provisions of this ordinance shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemean-
or and upon conviction shall be
fined in any sum not more than
$100.00 and each such day viola-
tion continues shall constitute a
separate offense.
Section 4. This ordinance shall
be cumulative of all other sani-
tary ordinances or regulations of
the City of Palacios, unless in con-
flict with the terms of said ordin-
ances and regulations, in which
case the terms of this ordinance
shall prevail.

By virtue of authority vested in
me by the City Council of the
City of Palacios, Texas, I hereby
call an election to be holden in
the said City of Palacios in the
City Hall on the third Tuesday of
July, 1952, the same being the 15th
day thereof, for the purpose of
electing a City Marshall to fill
the unexpired part of the elective
term of 1952-54.
The election shall be held under
the general laws of the State of
Texas providing for the election of
City Officers.
All persons qualified to vote un-
der the general laws of this state
and who are residents and citizens
of Palacios are qualified to vote
at this election.

In obedience to an order of the
Board of Equalization, regularly
convened and sitting, notice is
hereby given that said Board of
Equalization will be in session at
its regular meeting place in the
school house in the town of Pa-
lacios, Matagorda County, Texas,
at 9:00 o’clock A.M., on Wednes-
day and Thursday, the 23rd and
24th day of July, 1952, for the
purpose of determining, fixing and
equalizing the value of any and all
taxable property situated in Pala-
cios Independent School District,
Matagorda and Jackson County,
Texas, for taxable purposes for the
year 1952, and any and all persons
interested or having business with
said Board are hereby notified to
be present.

Hold Annual Meeting
In Edna July 15
Something brand new will be
presented in this area when the
Jackson Electric Cooperative holds
its first combined Annual meeting
and Electric Fair at the Fair
Grounds in Edna July 15.
Besides the regular business ses-
sion, there will be an all-day pro-
gram of entertainment and elec-
tric appliance displays, plus prizes
to be given away.
Headlining the Electric Fair will
be the amateur talent contest,
which is sponsored by a major
appliance on a state-wide basis.
The local winner will receive a
radio and a chance at a more
valuable prize to be awarded to a
state winner later this summer.
Capping the entertainment and
fun throughout the day will be a
veteran circus clown, Bozo the
Great, who has been clowning his
way into the hearts of kids—from
six to sixty—for 40 years. With
him on the program is Madame
Ray, who puts- her educated pets,
both dogs and monkeys, through
some amazing paces.
The musical side of things is
nicely taken care of by Dottie
Carlson, western song specialist,
and her guitar-playing partner,
Clyde Arnold.
The amateur talent contest and
the exhibits of electrical and farm
equipment will be on tap during
the morning, with the program
opening at 10 a.m. and. features
of the afternoon are the. business
session and the awarding of at-
tendance prizes.
Mrs. Joe Huffman, Mr. and Mrs.
Eddie Huffman and sons, and Mr.
and Mrs. Dave Frankson and Anita
Jo attended the Wilborn family re-
union at Camp Ben McCullough,
Austin, Texas, Saturday and Sun-
day.
