A tornado struch the north-
north-west section of the city
Monday afternoon, moving the
T.A. Toileson home several
inches off its foundation and
damaging the Rojas Grocery.
Two ex-convicts had been
charged with the robbery of
the Palacios Pharmacy early
Sunday morning.
The El Toro Restaurant,
corner of 9th and Main, will
hold its grand opening Friday.
The City Council approved
the plat for the Palacios
Development Corporation
Subdivision No. 1.
The annual grudge battle
between the Palacios Sharks
and Tidehaven Tigers will take
place Friday in El Maton.
Mr. and Mrs. John Rocken-
baugh, Jr. announced the
arrival of their daughter,
Cathy Ann, on Sept. 16.

The Sharks defeated Tide-
haven 24-6 in their season
opener. The Hornets, who
suffered a 28-0 loss to Lake
Jackson in their opener, jour-
ney to Sweeny.
Earl Ward Corp. will hold
the grand opening of their
appliance store in Palacios this
weekend. The store was locat-
ed in the Ramsey building on
Main Street.
The Texas Game and Fish
Commission’s Marine Labora-
tory closed its doors Sept. 14,
William C. Guest, biologist
here since January 1955, re-
signed to enter the University
of Texas to complete his
Doctorate in Zoology.

Only 336 citizens turned out
to vote in the street bond
improvement election Satur-
day, which carried 206 for and
128 against.
The Sharks, who defeated
Louise 38-0 in their opening
game last Friday, travel to
Tidehaven Friday for their
annual grudge battle with the
Tigers.
The A.N. Evans Construc-
tion Company of Columbus
received the general contract
for the construction of the new
elementary school.
Miss Irene Gerhard and
Allan Thompson were married
Sept. 13 at the First Methodist
Church with Rev. W.P. Car-
michael officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Elliott,
Mr. and Mrs. Alexander
Cunningham, Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Adams were all par-
ents of baby boys and Lt. and
Mrs. Robert Middleton were
the parents of a baby girl.

Mr. and Mrs. George Kana
were the proud parents of a
baby boy born Sept. 15.
Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Beasley
purchased the Harbor Inn
from Mr. and Mrs. Jake Hull.
A total of 580 bales had been
turned out at the iocal gin.
The V.F.W. Pirates closed
the season in the Hug-the
Coast baseball league Sunday
with a 27 to 11 win over the
Alvin All-Stars.

Kittens. Coach Holst reports
38 boys out for practice but
only three lettermen.
Total enrollment for high,
junior high and Eastside
Elementary schools was 644.

Mr. and Mrs. George A.
Harrison announced the forth-
coming marriage of their
daughter, Ruth, to A.B.
Pierce, Jr, son Mr. and Mrs.
A.B. Pierce of Blessing.
Ray Anders, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Anders, received his
“Wings” as an Air Corps pilot
at graduation exercises at
Ellington Field.

agent, reported 5,436 bales of
cotton ginned in Matagorda
County for this season up to
Sept. 1. The local gin reported
1,116 bales and the crop was

1973 signed by Jane Elder and
made payable to T.A. McFar-
land was found by Ney Old-
ham, Sr. when he was cleaning
out the cash register in the
store he purchased from Mr.
McFarland.

Palacios schools opened
with an enrollment of over 500
the largest in the history of the
school.
