of Bryson has been appointed
by ths Homs Mission Board of
the Southern Baptist Convention
to serve for 10 weeks from June
10 to August 16 is a Student
summer Missionary on the
Western slope of Colorado.
Marcia departed from Dallas
airport on Monday and after ar-
riving in Denver all the
mtssionaires will be taken to
the Ponderosa assembly near
Denver for a four day orienta-
tion session.
She will work with the iwUena

6-26 near Jonaclo, Colo. From
July 27 to August 2, she will
work In the First Baptist
Church In Cortez.

Funeral services were held
at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the
First Baptist Church for P.
P. (Pete) Pickett. Rov. Diras
McKay of Holliday offlcated
assisted by the pastor of the
church Rev. James Williams.
Pickett, 54, was borned and
lived almost all his life In tills
community. He was an em
ployee at Dynalatic for the last
18 years. He died of an ap-
parent heart attack while on
his way homo from work Thurs-
day.
Survivors are his wife, Marie;
a daughter, Mrs. Nathaneal
Hamilton near Bowie; a son
Gary, U.S, Army, Fort Bliss El
Paso; his mother Mrs. Ola
Pickett, Newport;
Also a brother Oran Pickett
of Jacksboro; two sisters Mrs.
James Painter, Fort Worth,
Mrs. Bob Steel Wichita Falls;
and 2 grandsons.
Community night was ob-
served at the center Monday,
June 3. Mrs. Hobart Coyle
and Mrs. Howard Thompson
were hostesses.
The cemetery association met
in the home of Mrs. Walter Lee
Morris in the regular 1st Tues-
day meeting. Refreshments
were served.
Next meeting will be at the
home of Mrs. Dee Morris July
2.
There were 58 descendants of
the late Mr. and Mrs. A. A.
Jordan Sunday at a family re-
union at the community center
here. They were here from,
Bowie, Irving, Fort Worth*)
Houston, Henrietta, Wichita
Falls, Buffalo Springs. The
late Mr. and Mrs. Jordan mov-
ed from Mississippi to New-
port In 1895, living here and
raising their family here al-
though the family is scattered
here and there they all still
think of Newport as home and
meeting here in their annual
reunions.
Mrs. John Hubble of Jacksboro
visited the Mr. and Mrs. N. E.
Deweber and Mr. and Mrs. Hen-
ry Hubble here Saturday and at-
tended the Pickett Funeral.
Visiting in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Luther McManus this
weekend were Mr. and Mrs. V.
P. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Don-
nie Gaetz of Wichita Falls, Mr.
and Mrs. DunkCordell of Bowie
and Mrs. Kate Pickett here.

here Saturday and visited their
mother, Mrs. Kate Pickett and
grandmother, M.vs. Ola Pickett.

The Sidewalk Art Show is to
be held on the last day of the
three day "Jim Bowie Days
Celebration,’’ being sponsored
by the various Clubs of Bowte.
The "Jim Bowte Days Cele-
bration” Is a project to get
the Old Settlers and New Set-
tlers together for a reunion,
entertainment and good time.
There wil' competent judges
for the Sidewalk Art Show and
ribbons will be awarded.

talk and demonstration on

Mrs. Joyce Murray of Perrin
gave a talk on "Art In the
Home”.
In the afternoon, Miss Grass
head nurse of the Jack County
Hospital gave a talk on "Com-
munity Health.” Miss Doris
Elkins with the Dallas Fashion-
Merchandising College gave a
talk on “Make-up and Fashion
for Teen-agers.
