On Monday, the Student
Government Association host-
ed the first Student Speak sem-
inar in the HPU theatre, featur-
ing Dr. Lanny Hall, Howard
Payne President. Hall received
dozens of questions from stu-
dents, many of which were in
regards to facilities improve-
ments on campus.
One of the most pressing
facility issues was that of
construction - or lack thereof
- on Mims Auditorium. Hallexplained that construction had
been delayed due to massive
budgeting oversights on the
part of the hired architecture.
Despite significant changes to
the original plans (which Hall
did not address specifically),
comfortable new chairs should
seat 900-1,000.
New bids on new plans will
be in within four weeks, and
construction is scheduled to
be completed in December of
this year or January of 2010.
Commencement for December
2009 graduates is currently
scheduled to be held in the
Brownwood Coliseum.Another major grounds
change was the addition of
38 floodlights in various areas
around campus over the holi-
day break. The university has
invested $35,000 in these addi-
tions, anon-budget expenditure.
The university has installed, or
will soon install, seven lights
behind Veda Hodge Hall, 15
in the Thompson Academic
Complex (TAC) parking lot,
two near the Davidson Music
Complex (DMC), three for the
mall area, four in the Mims
