Adult Discussion Group Hears
Discussion On 19th Century Cowtown
AT DANCIGER CENTER
BY I. E. HOB WITZ
Mr. Scranton Jones, Mayor
Pro Tem, took the Adult Dis-
cussion Gtoup back to the mid-
dle of the 19th century, when
the population of Fort Worth
was about a thousand souls. His
father and grandfather had lived
here during those days and they
probably provided the history
to which he referred. His sub-
ject, “Saloon Service in the Sad-
dle” dealt with the cowboys
who visited Fort Worth and who
were attracted to an area on the
north side, drawn there by whis-
key, which flowed abuhdantly,
and by maidens of easy virtue.
The money spent by these hardy
cow punchers bolstered the eco-
nomy of the town, but it is hard-
ly likely that the attractions
would pass the board of censors
today.
Of particular interest was the
manner in which the Texas and
Pacific Railroad and the Santa
Fe were induced to come to Fort
Worth, the latter requiring a
cash payment of $75,000.00, the

money having been raised in one
day by a group of citizens who
were locked in a room till the
money was provided. Mr. Jones
provided the group with an in-
teresting and humorous account
of Fort Worths’ pioneer days.
The young musicions, Jamie
Schuster and Becky Reznikoff
were unable to present their pro-
gram because of illness, so they
will be held - over for another
meeting.
APRIL 7 MEETING
Rabbi Garsek will discuss
“Jewish Humor” and who is bet-
ter qualified to talk about this
subject than the Rabbi? The mu-
sic will be provided by Ruth
Bernstein who was prevented
from appearing on an earlier
program because of illness. With
two such excellent participants
this should be hn unusually fine
program. The public is invited,
so come and bring your friends.
Your reporter is happy to. state
that our program director, Doro-
thy Rosenstein, is now at the
Horwitz Convalescent Home,
3037 Lipscomb Street, where she
will be glad to see her friends.
