Letter to die Editor. ’
Citizens of Dublin and the sur
rounding community, do you know
what is going on in your town? Or
are you Hire me, you didn’t realize
what is happening or perhaps you
knew but really didn’t care.
What I’m talking about is all the
signs in die merchant’s windows
that say We Support t|ie Dairy
Industry 100 percent On die sur-
face these are innocent looking
signs, as we all are used to seeing
signs that say we support this or
that But what is interesting and
maybe a little frightful is why these
signs are being displayed. It’s not
too hard to find out why, just ask a
few of the businesses that are
displaying the signs their reason for
ure, intimidation, boycott or threat
thereof. Why place a merchant in
the position of deckling to whom he
should or shouldn’t sell to. Nor
should an employer bow to pressure
from a group or persons as to
whom be should or shouldn’t
employ.
Our local civic leaders and Cham-
ber of Commerce could do more to
promote a more positive image of
the town of Dublin, not the negativ-
ism we’re seeing now. After all, the
Dairy Industry is not the only
industry in the area, there are others
large and small that contribute to
our economy and community in
many ways and never receive or
ask for recognition.
I know that this letter will pro-
doing so and then go ask some of babiy make some people or groups
the businesses that are not display- mad but that it not my intent at all
ing the sign their reason for not My intent is to open everyone’s
displaying it This I have done and eyes as to what is happening in our
I encourage you all to do the same community and town, so as to work
thing
toward a better and prosperous

Dear Editor..
Reading a great story is perhaps
one of the greatest pleasures in life.
Nofiling can surpass this personal
enjoyment unless perhaps h is the
ability to share such a story with
others. Dublin ISD faculty members
and community representatives
recently had this opportunity during
National Young Readers Week
Guest readers visited every elemen-
tary classroom Wednesday, Nov.
18, to share in the dsHgttf of
reading.
I would like to take dlls oppor-
tunity to express my sincere*
thanks to all file Guest Readers who
made special arrangements to be a
part of this program. Your presence
reinforced the concept that reading
spans all age levels and provides
enrichment for all. Thank you again
for joining us during this special
time.
Sincerely,

a merchant that he was hurting his
business, as the dairy customer’s
would not come into his place of
business when this citizen’s truck
was parked outside. Yes, 1 did
check with this merchant and he
confirmed what I had been told by
others. That citizen now drinks his
coffee elsewhere.
There has been other incidents
of retaliation.

Dear Readers: Since Santa Claus
reads The Dublin Citizen each week
we know he will read all the
children’s tetters from Dublin so
feel free to send them to us for
publication.
About LETTERS TO THE
EDITOR:
Only in very rare circum-
stances will we print a tetter to
the editor that b not signed. We
have received mail lately in-
volving some community pro-
blems which point the finger at
specific individuals. We believe
the accused should have the
right to know his accuser. If
you feel strongly enough about
an bsue to sign your tetter, we
will run it (if it meets our
criteria of good taste).

Letter to the Editor for all rea-
ders:
When the seeds of ideas are
scattered all about, I have found
that some will fall on the rocks,
some will fall among foe weeds but
some (jut as foe Biblical parable
suggests) will fall on fertile ground
and grow into something worth-
while and even beautiful. Such was
the case with the idea for decorating
foe Wright Historical Park and foe
Dublin Public library grounds with
Christinas scenes for die entire
community and visitors to enjoy.
After scattering fob idea about
since Christmas 1991,1 brought fob
suggestion to Lea Zimmerman of
Dublin United Super. Here was foe
"fertile ground” foe Idea had been
seeking. Lee was not only excited
about foe possibilities; he and Kelly
had a stash of poster kits for wood
cutouts which they were willing to
donate if I could find persons to
complete them. After this generous
contribution, I set about finding
organizations to help me construct
his Nativity scene. Santa’s Work-
shop and Greeting Card.
I sought a church to construct foe
Nativity scene end found my own
church, First United Methodist, wil-
ling to help. Those who helped me
construct and set up the sceoe were
Jeanean Herod, Sybil and J.W.
Hodges, Cecil Campbell James
Sharp, Ken Jones and Lewb Atter-
bury. Materiah were donated by
Vernon Gibson, Patsy Jones and
James Sharp.
The Silver Seniors took on foe
task of completing the Santa’s
Workshop, elves and reindeer. Jim-
mie Cogborn was aided by Danny
and Karen Fincannon.
The Dublin Senior Citizens con-
structed Santa and Mrs. Santa
checking over foe list of boys and
girb with help from Elsie Ross,
Juanita Jones, Jack Criswell Lena
Jewell, M*y Cockerell Pauline
Jones, Louise Gunn and Eva Fay
Atkins.
Santa’s Workshop scene was
erected by Ken Jones, John Ames
and Johnny Milter.
• The Greeting Card was completed
by Dublin Health Center volunteers
Carolyn and Max Smith, Janet
Mathis, Thelma Moore, Roy and
Pat Malphurs and Betty and Phil
House.
The Santa and Mrs. Santa and
reindeer around foe Christmas tree
were donated (unpainted) by David
and Pattie Johnson. LeMay Mann
painted them and Willard set them
in place. The Garden Club placed
poinsettias in foe planter box.
The 20-foot live Christmas tree
was donated by Dublin Motor
Company and The Dublin Citizen.
The city crews, led by Ken Jumey,
set the tree in place and strung the
lights. The giant wood decorations
were hung by the DISD Functional
Learning Class and their teachers,
Jody Collier and Rita Reed.
The spotlights, electrical supplies
and other materials were provided
by the Chamber of Commerce.
