LIBRARY NOTES
By Carolyn Holden
“A librarian’s weather” is upon
us, I mean the kind that forces
you to the nearest comfortable
chair with a good book and a cup
of your favorite drink. In my case,
it’s in front of the fireplace
squeezed in between two dogs
and a cat, all of us in one chair
and they seem to enjoy the com-
panionship of closeness nearly as
much as I enjoy the book.
We have several new ones in
this month, among them is new
author Diana Gabaldon with a
book almost fantasy-like titled
“Outlander”. Hurtled back
through time more than two hun-
dred years to Scotland in 1743,
Claire Randall finds herself
caught in the midst of an unfami-
liar world torn apart by violence,
pestilence, and revolution and
haunted by her growing feelings
for James Fraser, a young soldier.
For all Victoria Holt fans, we
have her latest book ‘‘Daughter
of Deceit” the daughter of famed
actress Desiree, Noelle Tremas-
ton has led a charmed existence,
but her mother takes in Lisa
Fennel...an adoring fan and

overly ambitious in-
genue...Noelle’s life is changed
forever.
I want to thank the patrons
who brought in their overdue
books this last week, and to
remind the others who got letters
last week to please bring in
theirs. An overdue book cannot
be read by anyone else, and needs
to be returned as soon as pos-
sible.
I have had several patrons who
have loaned their library books to
someone else to read. First con-
vince them to come in and get a
library card so that we can keep
count of the readers and secondly
there is always the problem of
who pays for the overdue or lost
book. The fact is the book was
checked out in your name and
you are the responsible party
even if your friend lost the book.
So remember your library books
and next time you check out a
book bring a friend so he or she
can check out their own books.

David’s Texaco was able to help "a friend in need" this week. When DARE
policeman Randy Dolloff stopped at the station to have a flat fixed, his car
would not start due to a dead battery. Continental Battery’s Larry Moran of
Waco donated a battery. Then Bob Leverett of Cactus Tire provided new tires
for the vehicle which was loaned to the DARE program by Dr. Charles
Crabtree^ Shown are Dolloff, standing, and David’s Texaco employee Ronald
Mathis. (Photo by Brandi Bailey).
