INDUSTRY—
fact that Texas lumber has been
specially adaptd to components
and "engineered wood" by indus-
try grading standards which im-
pose close quality controls.
Ill meet Southern Pine grade |
startdardi, framing lumber must
be “pre-shrunk” by proper season-
ing and possess all-purpose
strength value. For such reasons,
the same grades of Southern Pine i
a* are used for conventional house 1
framing, meet the high stress re-
quirements of trussed rafters and
other component*. There is no
need for a special and more ex-
pensive grade. The fact that the
"pre-shrlnkihg" process virtually
doubles the natural wood strength,
is a further advantage.
While Texas' lumber Industry
produces several hundred million
board feet of Southern Pine lum-
ber a year, the rate of saw timber
growth far exceed* drain In fact,
a constant Increase in forest sup-
ply ha* been assured by good for-
est management and by the help
and adviec extended by lumber
companies to farmer* and other
small wood-lot owners. The United
States Forext Service is so im
pressed with the ultimate growth
potential that It predict* eventual
concentration of the nation’s lum-
ber production in Texa* and other
