Recycling is important because
we need to keep our city clean. A
clean city impresses people who come
to Burleson from out of town. You
can recycle plastic, glass, paper, alu-
minum cans, and many more things.
A dirty and unclean city is not
healthy to live in. If you have a clean
and pretty town or city, the citizens
will be proud of the community.
Having a clean city and healthy envi-
ronment would persuade people to
live here because the city is clean and
nice looking. Recycling gets rid of
garbage and you can earn money by
Letter to the Editor
At least one
employee did
not buy mayor's
stand Tuesday
I am an employee of this city and
have watched in fear and amazement
the last three months. I was appalled
at the nerve you (VeraCalvin) showed
on Tuesday, the third of March. You
left your seat and addressed the coun-
cil as a concerned citizen, then went
back to your seat to serve as mayor.
Mayor Calvin, you do not fool
us. It is common knowledge that your
husband has been after Mr. Eades'
job ever since he came here. Is it not
the truth that he constantly harasses
the staff and employees at city hall?
And wasn't the organizational review
your idea of a method you learned at
a seminar?
Mayor Calvin, you should be
ashamed of yourself for blaming
everyone but yourself. Don't you think
it is time you do the job you were
elected to do? The employees de-
serve better than this and we will
remembfcr it at election time in May.

recycling. The city would be less
polluted and it would' encourage
growth of the city and more business.
When you recycle you should feel
proud because you are helping to
clean up your community. Many
people like to live in clean environ-
ments and I am one of those people.
I don't know about you, but I would
like Burleson to be one of the clean-
est places in Texas.

Carolyn Carpenter, Mound
Recycling can help Burleson in
many ways. When people take the
time to recycle, it cuts down on land-
fills. We can recycle glass, paper, and
aluminum. Recycling cuts down on
pollution.
Thousands of trees are cut
down every year just to make the
paper newspapers are printed on. Re-
cycling these papers could save lots
of trees, including endangered rain
forests. You might ask "How saving
a rain forest half way around the
world could improve the quality of
life in Burleson?"
Many plants and animals found
in these rain forests are used to pro-
duce medicines. If all of us make
efforts to recycle, we will help to
preserve our forests, reduce the pol-
lution of our environment and make
our world a better place to live.

Look, all you people out there
think "Well we should recycle, but
it’ll take up my spare time. Besides, I
couldn't make much of a difference.
I'll let someone else mess with it
"I mean, everyone else does it.
How could I make a difference with
everyone else littering and throwing
away. I'll just forget abouitL”
Well, all you people wftQ think
that are wrong! One person, juSlone,
could make a difference you wouldn't
believe! ‘ ♦
All you have to do is save your
cans you use and recycle them. Save
your papers you don't need; don't
throw them away. Like I said earlier,
for those who think someone else
will handle it, well that's what every-
one thinks but then no one does any-
thing about helping to save,Burleson
and jnywhere else for that matter.
Take a look! Look at what's going on
around you. Wake up!
Stop littering. Recycling it
doesn't take much. If you just give a
little, you're giving a lot more than
you now. This is America; we’ve
always pulled together to solve our
problems. But look at us now. Are we
going to run and hide and let other
people mess with this? No! We need
to stand up. We need to pull together
to so've our greatest problems.
