Textbooks proposed for adoption available to the public
The textbook hearing schedule
has been announced by the Burleson
ISD, New textbooks which will be up
for adoption by the district are avail-
able for public viewing and scrutiny
between now and the hearing dates,
Feb. 5,6, and 7.
Members of the community are
invited to drop by the administration
office anytime weekdays (hiring
school hours to look over the books
in preparation for the upcoming
adoption hearings.
Texts up for adoption include
Algebra 1 and II books, geometry,
trigonometry, physiology and anat-
omy, and world history studies. The
date for hearings on those books is
Feb. 5 at 3:45 in the boardroom of the
central administration building,
1160 S.W. Wlshire. Faculty mem-
bers Bob Spurlin, Martha Whis-
enant, and Linda Fuhlendorf will be
present at the hearing for those
books.
Texts for English as a second
language, Grades 1-8 anu Spanish as
a second language, grades 4-6;
Health, grade 7 or 8, and Life Man-
agement Skills will be considered on
the same hearing date. Feb. 5 at the
same time at the board room. Faculty
involved in the bearing for those
books are Bob Spurlin, Karen
Cathey, and Mary Heavin. Composi-
tion and language, grades 7-8 will be
considered the same day, also in the
administration boardroom, with
Kathy Meek in attendance.
The hearing dale for texts for
Business Management Skills, grades
7-8, personal finance, and home
economics will be considered in the
conference room at BHS on Feb. 6,
3:45 p.m. (Faculty at that hearing:
Buddy McKee, Brenda Yowell, and
Jerri Hoaldridge.) Band texts, grades
4-12; orchestra, grades 4-12, French
1. 11. and 111, Larin I and II, and
Advanced Larin, levels I-1V, on the
same date, Feb. 6, administration
building, also at 3:45 p.m. (Faculty:
Bob Spurlin, Richard Kincaid, and
Linda Gcrsteiunier.)
Health textbooks, grades 4-6,
and composition and language texts.
grades4-6 will be considered the fol-
lowing day, Feb. 7 at the same time
(3:45 pan.) in the boardroom of the
administration building. Faculty
members attending that hearing will
be Bob Spurlin, Joyce Baldwin. Pat
Hensley. Tracy Davis, Pat Robinson,
and Dorothy Nash.

OBITUARIES
WALTER T. PHEMISTER
Funeral services for Waller T.
Phemister, 76, of Burleson, took
place Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at Calvary
Pentecostal Church with Rev. Ron
Liles officiating. Burial was at Ren-
don Cemetery with Buddy Jessup,
Eddie Phemister, Sterling Watkins,
Bill Law, Claude Jessup, and Nar-
vel Blacks lock acting as pallbearers.
Laurel Land of Burleson handled
the funeral arrangements.
* Phemister died Thursday, Jan.
25, 1990, at his residence. He was
the owner of Phemister Trucking
Company and a member of Calvary
Pentecostal Church.
Phemister was bom Feb. 21,
1913, in Arlington, Texas, to Pren-
tice and Minnie Geer Phemister. He
married Doris Perdue on June 8,
1945, in Breckenridge, Texas.
Phemister is survived by his
wife. Doris Phemister of Burleson;
three sons, Michael T. Phemister of
Burleson, David Kent Phemister of
Arlington, and Ricky D. Phemister
of Rendon; one daughter, Gaylynn
Guzman of Fort Worth; five bro-
thers, Ed Phemister of Haltorn Ci-
ty, Charlie Phemister of Irving,
William (Dub) Phemister of Dallas,
Prentice Phemister of Irving, and
Joshua Phemister of Richardson;
antheight grandchildren.
ALLEN O. WARD
Funeral services for Allen O.
Ward, 56, of Burleson will be at 10
a.m. on Jan. 29 at Laurel Land of
Burleson Chapel with Rev. Keith
Fortner officiating. Burial will be at
Burleson Memorial Park. Laurel
Land of Burleson is handling the
funeral arrangements.
Ward died Friday, Jan. 26,
1990, in a Fort Worth hospital. He
had lived in Burleson for 28 years
and was a quality control technician
for an auto air-conditioning manu-
facturing company. He was a for-
mer Burleson police officer who
was affectionately known as ‘Offi-
cer Friendly.* He was a member of
First Covenant Church hi Dallas.
Ward was born Aug. 23, 1933,
in Graham, Texas, to James Gordon
and Johnnie Crawford Ward. He
married Janet Smith on October 24,
1959 in Dallas.
Ward is survived by his wife,
Janet Ward of Burleson; two
daughters, Jan Ward McMurtray of
Arlington and Joy Ellen Ward of
Burleson; one sister, Ann Ward
Lowery of Cleburne; and one grand-
daughter, Miriam Elizabeth McMur-
tray of Arlington.
The family would appreciate

RUBY NELL BARHAM
Graveside services for Ruby
Nell Barham, 87, of Cleburne took
place Ian. 25 at 11 xm. at Rosehill
Cemetery in Cleburne with Rev.
Mike Thompson officiating. The
funeral arrangements were handled
by Martin's Funeral Home in Cle-
burne.
Barham died Tuesday, Jan. 23,
1990, at her residence in Cleburne.
She had lived in Cleburne most of
her life and was a retired seamstress
from Walls Manufacturing, where
she worked for 10 years. She was a
member of United Presbyterian
Church in Cleburne.
Barham was born Aug. 30,
1902, in Quitman, Ark., to Martin
Luther Keirsy and Sarah Ann Swor
Keirsy. She married M.C. Barium
on Jan. 13, 1926, in Cleburne. He
preceded her in death on Jan. 22.
1952.
She is survived by two sons,
Morris Barium of Cleburne and Ro-
bert‘Wimpy* Barham erf Burleson;
one daughter. Carmen Andrews of
Acton; six grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
