II. J. Schmidt of Vanderbilt drop-
ped in at tliis office yesterday1 to set
tlieir Herald date up to 1946. He
reports that a Mexican boy near
Vanderbilt was bitten by . a rattle
snake a few days ago and was in a
serious condition at the hospital in
Victoria. The Mexican was clearing
out brush and when struck by the
snake he thought a yellowjacket hud

Airs. J. W. Johnson of the Cor-
dele section is improving slowly
from a. stroke she suffered several
weeks ago. She Is still confined to
her bed, however.
Happy Gathering.

A family gathering was held Sun-
day at the Ludwig home, with ull
the children being present except one
son, who was in the Pacific; alBo a
-few friends. A delicious barbecue
difiner with ajl the trimmings was
served for dinner and supper. Noth-
ing was left undone that would add
to the pleasure of the day. Christ-
mas carols were sung, with the small
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aardnl play-
ing the accompaniment on the guitar.

Dave Ludwig of Houston, Mr. and
Airs. .Fred Hayden and baby of Cali-
