LETTERS
The Stalker, Part II
If you are being stalked, notify local law enforcement. Request that
each incident be documented. Give them any written correspondence and
report any phone threats. Record dates of all correspondence and calls
received from the stalker. r
THE ATTORNEY GENERAL RECOMMENDS:
* Keep a diary - record a description of each incident, witnesses and
their addresses. Complete records are essential to successful
prosecution of stalking cases.
* Get a Protective Order - If you are related to the stalker by blood
or marriage, if you have ever lived together or if you have a child in
common, a protective order is possible.
* Record telephone conversations - Tell the stalker to stop calling
and hang up. Screen your calls. Keep recorded messages and give
them to law enforcement.
* Take pictures of the stalker - If a photo can be taken safely, write
the time, date and place on the back of each picture.
* Keep all correspondence - Touch the letter as little as possible in
order to preserve fingerprints.
* Tell everyone - Give friends, co-workers and neighbors a description
of the stalker. Ask them to document each time they see the stalker.
IMPORTANT SAFETY MEASURES:
* Be alert - Stay aware of people and your surroundings.
* Vary routes - Come and go by different directions, avoid a pattern.
* Park securely - Park in well-lit areas and ask someone to escort you
to your car.
* Be aware - Watch for vehicles following you. Drive to a police or
fire station for help.
* Alert managers or security at your place of business
* Security check - Have law enforcement do a security check of your
home and keep doors and cars locked.
* Maintain an unlisted phone number - Also Caller ID is valuable.
* Do not dismiss any threat - Call law enforcement.
* Maintain privacy - Never give out personal information when it can
be overheard.
* Develop a safety plan - You and your family members need a safe
place to meet and someone to call in case of an emergency.
If you need more details, telephone numbers of numerous related
agencies or Protective Order information, the Attorney General’s
pamphlets on stalking, protective orders and domestic violence
available at the reception desk of the Erath County Sheriff’s Office.
Dear Editor,
As a volunteer elected to an
office for an organization created
to support a iu promote all athletics
in the Dubli'i school system, I’m
amazed at li w the Athletic
Booster Club is perceived as also
being creators of school policy.
This is not true.
During the week of Aug. 23rd -
27th, being this Booster Club’s
president, I was told of_ some
misinformation being ‘passed
around concerning our role in sport
gate receipts. Let it be known, we
have none!
The Athletic Booster Club has
never, and never will, receive any
benefits from money taken as gate
fees. Proceeds go into each of the
participating school's funds.
The organization as a body also
does not have a say in the admit-
tance policy of DISD employees
and their families. These policies
concerning sporting events are set
by the superintendent/school board.
The Athletic Booster Club is
here for the student athlete’s ben-
efit. It is a superb way of support-
ing our growing athletes through
their junior high and high school
careers. True, it does take money
to improve the overall mechanics
of a good sporting program. We, as
a sport booster club, will do our
best to support those demands that
have been filtered down, priori-
tized, and screened by the athletic
director. We use money donated
through our various programs, it
being football, basketball, track,
volleyball, baseball, power-lilting,
or whatever the school’s sporting
event.
From the money collected this
past year, the athletic director rec-
ommended a new weighlroom’s
furnishings for the new high
school, so that every athlete could
improve his or her physical
stamina, and to also make better
use of the existing weight room
with junior high conditioning de-
mands. If your membership is
valid, you may have a say and a
vote on such matters, if your
presence is with us at the meeting.
Teams taught in a positive, win-
ning mamier, such as those at
D.H.S., deserve positive support
from fans.
Lions are #1 in our hearts. We
meet each Monday night in the
high school annex at 7 p.m. during
football season. We welcome your
continued support.

SHARING
As time goes on, we need someone to share the journey.
Not just the good times, the pretty flowers,
The sunrises and sunsets, the full moons,
The moonless bright starry nights;
But the hurts, the disappointments, the arthritic,
Moments when we hurt both physically and mentally,
Ingrown nails, headaches, lack of self-esteem, hemorrhoids,
Fear of death and fear of not belonging.
As time goes on, we need someone to lean on
And someone to lean on us
To make us want to be a rock
Solid enough to surpass all the tribulations of this life.
And when it’s all boiled down to the bottom line,
There is no one, except the Master,
Who has a perfect love
For all that care to believe.
No matter how errant we become. He will forgive u;
If we truly want forgiveness.
No matter how far we stray from the path He would, likens to take,
He will lead us back if we can be led.
And it’s all about sharing.
Share your troubles with someone who cares.
And if there is a savior, He cares.
So no matter how down and distraught you may think you have
become,
There is always one who is your friend.
Willing to listen at any time to your troubles.
Think about it:
Someone who shares your troubles by listening is truly a friend.

Looking at the laws
I had a long talk with Jeff Weaver, chairman of the Code and
Ordinance committee, this past week. He and I agree we need to do a lot
of work on our ordinances. We have a lot of them in force (See the Aug.
5th Dublin Citizen for some of them.), but some of them lack the
foresight and authority to make them effective. No one wants to
over-enforce or have ordinances that restrict our every movement. But
for those who feel they don’t have to comply with the law, perhaps we
have to encourage them to have a change of heart.
Everyone knows there is a “penalty” section in most of our ordinances.
If convicted of an offense, these penalties carry a fine not to exceed a
certain amount. The amount can range from $100 to $2000 or more for
each separate offense.
Our code enforcement officer makes every effort to assist the violator
and to encourage them to comply before the 10-day warning period
expires. An appeal can be made if you feel you are unfairly cited. Once it
ends up in the Municipal Court, the municipal judge decides the
punishment.
We have many ordinances in effect and they can be reviewed at City
Hall. A copy can be made for a reproduction fee, or you can contact your
council representative who can assist you.
Troy Ashcraft called the other day and he is finalizing the ptogram for
laying of the cornerstone at our new high school. This program,
sponsored by the Dublin Masonic Lodge, is scheduled for Oct. 22nd at 1
p.m. You may want to mark your calendar. A time capsule is available.
Oct. 9th & 10th, Dublin will host the “World’s Championship Rodeo
Reunion and Cowboy Rendezvous” in our city park. Many events are
scheduled and a barbecue lunch is at noon on the 9th. Contact the
Chamber of Commerce at 445-3422 for more information.
I will be calling all our congressmen and senators and any elected
official who may offer their support for the historic grist mill, historic
railroad depot and the construction of a pedestrian parkway this week.
We can use all the support that is available.
1 can use your support! Call 445-3342 for any comments or
suggestions. 1 am a good listener.
The month of September is budget time for Dublin. Your city manager
has been working on it for weeks and will present it to the finance
committee and council this month. You may want to attend.
BUS DRIVERS PRAYER
Author Unknown
Please, Lord, watch over me today. Please help me to watch
eight mirrors, two dozen windows, eight gauges, six warning
lights, six dozen faces, three lanes of traffic, and to keep a
third eye open for wobbling bicycles, and daydreaming
pedestrians, especially those wearing headphones, who are off
in another world.
Please, Lord, help me to hear all train whistles, truck and
automobile horns, police sirens, and the two-way radio.
ii IJ 4,
Please, Lord, give me i hand for the gearshift lever, the
steering wheel, the route book, the radio microphone, and the
tum-signal lever.
And please, Lord, grant me the self-control to keep my
hands away from Johnny’s neck. (
And one more thing, dear Lord, please don’t let Mary be
sick all over the bus.
And finally, Lord, please watch over all of us, so that we
can do it all again next year.
AMEN
