gamma Zeta celebrates 65 years of success
By AMANDA GREENWAY
Staff Writer
Delta Kappa Gamma Society
International Gamma Zeta
Chapter held their 65th
Anniversary celebration Monday
nigh^ at the Faith Family
Fellowship Center at Faith
Lutheran Church.
The society is a professional
honorary society of women
educators, and the local chapter
Gamma Zeta was organized in
1941 by Alpha State officers and
five local educators. Gamma Zeta
now boasts 52 active members
and expanded in 1974 to form the
chapter Iota Upsilon and again in
1981 to form Lambda Pi Chapter.
Gamma Zeta’s sister chapters
around the area were in
attendance, as well as the
President of Alpha State Catherine
Davis.
As the lady educators came in
the door, they were met with name
tags and ushered toward tables
full of fashion since the society’s
organization in 1941 called
Fashions Through the Decades of
Gamma Zeta. Many types of
dresses were shown during the
presentation including formals,
fur coats and going away dresses.
Before the formal presentation
attendees dined on hors d'oeuvres
including salmon mouse, chicken
liver pate en gelle, crackers,
erudite with dip, chfese balls,
layered Mexican dip with chips,
little smokies in plum sauce, hot
wings, fresh fruit trays, tiny
brownies and lemon bars, salted
nuts, mock champagne punch,
and coffee. Centerpieces were hat
displays with hats in many
different styles and shapes. Table
cloths were blue and white rose
print.
Annette Bradberry, President
of Gamma Zeta gave the welcome
and after Rev. Tom Konz gave the
Invocation, he also introduced
guests in attendance.
President of Alpha State
Catherine Davis gave an amusing
greeting, ending with “Texas is
well on the road to success...” and
“I thank you for being role
models.” Eileen Pink, Area X
Coordinator then addressed the
crowd and applauded Gamma
Zeta members, and noted that
being 65 years old means “being
on the go and in the kpow.”
the entire history of Gamma
Zeta was then shared by Sherry
Boardman of the Archives
Committee. Ruby Shuman,
President of Iota Upsilon then
spoke on the Reflections of the
Past.
President Annette Bradberry
was happy to receive an
Anniversary Membership book
with all members listed from
Archive Chair Lynanne Simpson.
Joanne Denmark, Membership
Chair introduced Lilly Gibson as
being a Golden Anniversary
Member, who in her 96 years has
been a member of Gamma Zeta
for 50 years.
Birthday cake with white icing,
adorned with red roses was served
while Kathy Knoll led the ladies
in music. Entertainment Chair
Barbara Williams then had those
who brought Fashions Through
the Decades show their ensembles
and explain a little about their
history.
Members of Gamma Zeta and
her sister societies then sang the
Delta Kappa Gamma Song
accompanied by pianist Jane
Sweeney.
CELEBRATION - (Top) Fifty year member Lilly Gibson was
introduced as a Golden Anniversary Member while Dublin’s Charlotte
