wonderfal response to the
Christmas Store here at the
Desdemona Activity Center!
What fun we have had! 1
happen to know that we will
have some more items
coming in for this weekend’s
sale.
We have sold bunches but
still have a lot left. And don’t
forget the cakes, cookies,
pies, candy, etc. The store
will be open this week on
Thursday, Friday and
Saturday from 8 am-5 pm'
Remember that we will not
have a second Friday of the
month dance because of the
Christmas Store. When we
resume the dances in January,
they will be held on the
second Saturday of each
month. Johnny Johnson and
the Memory-Makers will still
be our band.
We have a concern about
our regular ’First Saturday
Breakfasts’ here at the DAC.
The cost of food has gone up
The City of Dublin will be
changing the type of solid
waste pick up service with
LESI starting February 1,
2012. The city will start
using poly cart containers
for each residential
customer. All commercial/
businesses are required by
the city and IES1 to have at
least one poly cart container
per commercial/businesses
unless you are already
under contract for a larger
container.
The total residential
charge for one poly cart will
go from $17.94 to $20.06
and approximately $28.12
for a second poly cart. All
Commercial/Businesses
must contract with IESI for
garbage pickup or be in
violation of the contract
with IESI.
Once the poly cart service
starts only the trash inside
the cart will be picked up.
There will be no other type
bags or containers picked
up. The lid must be
completely closed before
IESI will pick up and empty
the cart(s). IESI will continue
EDITOR S MAIL
Dear Editor,
My name is Janda Taylor.
Although 1 am currently a
resident of Comanche,
Texas 1 have deep roots in
Dublin, Texas. My brother
and I were bom in the old
Dublin hospital. We were
both delivered by Dr. Joe
Pate.
I am the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. R. Bloyd, who
both graduated from
Dublin High School. I am
the granddaughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Bradley
and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse
Bloyd, and the niece of Mr.
and Mrs. Bobby Bradley,
who all resided in Dublin.
Another unde and aunt,
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Herbert, still reside in
Dublin. I am the niece of
Billy Gene Bradley of
Carthage, Texas, another
Dublin graduate.
I attended the Dublin
schools through the second
grade, at which time we
moved to Comanche. My
teacher was Mrs. Ora Guest,
whom 1 remember fondly.
While I was attending
Tarleton State University at
Stephenville I did my
student teaching at Dublin.
My supervisor was Mrs.
Juanita Duncan. She was
truly an inspiration. I taught
school for 23 years after
that. Even though I am no
longer a Dublin resident,
Dublin holds a spedal place
in my heart. There are so
many precious memories!
My parents, Roydell and
Dorthy Bradley Bloyd will
be married for 65 years on
the 19th of December. We
will be hosting a reception
for them at the Pearl Street
Church of Christ, 500 North
Pearl Street, Comanche,
Texas, on Dec. 18 from 2-4
p.m.
Thank you
What a great start to the Christmas season for Dublin!
The Chamber of Commerce wants to thank all the workers
who made this parade possible including David
Leatherwood for arranging and Mac McKinnon for
announcing.
The Comer Lot group had the place looking like a winter
wonderland of lights, rhe Dublin police force directed
traffic as the volunteer fire department brought Santa to
town.
Thank you to the Rotary Club for allowing the Dublin
Cloverleaf Square dance group to perform in their
beautiful building while refreshments were being served
to those who stopped by to watch.
Luminaries were out on the sidewalks to light your way
to the First Baptist Church and their live nativity scene
while the Community Sing group was inside performing
their wonderful live music.
The Cowboy Capital Roller Girls worked as elves to help
line up the children to visit Santa and hand out a candy
canes.
The weather was perfect, the crowds were friendly and
the evening was memorable. Thank you to all the workers
that had a hand in making this event possible.

keep the cost by donation but
are considering setting a
price. Please be fair and give
a fair amount when you
come.
For the time being, the
donation cost will stay and
we will reevaluate in a few
months. The breakfasts are a
fundraiser to pay for the
building. We very much look
forward to the day when we
can have these events and
not worry about the cost, but
for now, we must make the
mortgage payments. We
would love to have someone
come forward and help us
make a dent in the amount
we owe. It Ls not a huge
amount, but it must be paid.
restaurants and leave your
server a nice tip. And, how
about going out to see a
play or ballet at your
hometown theatre.
Musicians need love too,
so find a venue showcasing
local bands.
Honestly, people, do you
REALLY need to buy
another ten thousand
Chinese lights for the
house? When you buy a
five dollar string of light,
about fifty cents stays in
the community. If you
have those kinds of bucks
to burn, leave the mailman,
trash guy or babysitter a
nice BIG tip. You see,
Christmas is no longer
about draining American
pockets so that China can
build another glittering
city. Christmas is now
about caring about US,
encouraging American
small businesses to keep
plugging away to follow
their dreams. And, when
we care about other
Americans, we care about
our communities, and the
benefits come back to us
in ways we couldn't
imagine.
Of course, I want to add
to the list of givng a gift
subscription to the Dublin
Citizen and/or one of the
books we have published.
THIS is the new American
Christmas tradition.
1 hope this catches on.
Thanks for reading.

Dubliners show big heart
to do the normal large item
pick up, but only the items
that are allowed. Again, IESI
will only empty the poly
cart(s) with the lid properly
closed.
This Ls being done in an
attempt to help with the
Clean Up Dublin program,
by the council, to remove
trash from the streets and
yards when trash pickup
daycomes. Yourcooperation
in this matter will be greatly
appreciated.

For any of you who are
closely acquainted with my
parents, we would love for
you to bring a card and
surprise Dad and Mom on
their celebration. May God
bless all of you with a
wonderful Christmas and a
Happy New Year.

By BARBARA SISSOM
Special to the Citizen
Once again, Dublin
citizens have shown what
caring hearts they possess.
In the weeks before
Thanksgiving, Dublin’s
Dollar General ran a food
drive to benefit The Love
Basket, a local food
pantry.
Donations of food ran
from a single can of green
beans to bags full of
groceries.
The Love Basket picked
up several shopping carts
heaped with food stuffs to
be given out to those
struggling to feed their
families.
I he food drive came at a
most providential time.
Without the generosity of
Dublin citizens, the canned
vegetables that the Love
Basket would have had to
give out in November would
have been mostly green
beans and corn.
Dollar General's food
drive (which was completely
their idea; the Love Basket
was notified after the fact)
and the outpouring of love
from Dubliners was a true
blessing and allowed needy
families to have a variety
of healthy choices.
We are indeed fortunate
to live in Dublin: as I write
this, radio station KEOX is
also hosting a food drive at
The Furniture Depot here
in Dublin.
This, too, will benefit the
Love Basket. While
donations are always
needed and appreciated,
the colder months
traditionally bring
increased need.
Until the first of this year,
the Love Basket was serving
about 25-35 families each
week. That figure has more
than doubled, causing us
to be open every other
week instead of weekly.
We now serve an average
of 90 families, or about
300 people, every other
Friday. Some are elderly,
struggling to live on meager
Social Security checks;
some come because they
have been laid off and are
looking for work; some
come because family has
had to move in with them
and their paychecks no
longer stretch far enough;
many, once they get on
their feet, give back
generously.
If you are moved to help
feed your neighbors, you
can contact Ray or Barbara
Sissom at 254 485-4393 or
C harlie Bradberry at 445
4030; or you can mail
checks payable to “the Love
Basket” to 3705 N. FM 219,
Dublin, 76446.
Only the grace of God
and the great caring hearts
of our community have
allowed the Love Basket to
stay in operation since
October of 2004. We
haven’t seen any era of
greater need in the last
seven years than we are
seeing right now.
So, Dubliners, Dollar
General, KQF.X, and
Furniture Depot, please
accept a heartfelt “Thank
You" from the Love Basket
and those they serve!
