BSU Makes Active
Social Contribution
The last wW of Christmas |<a-
ration thirty-five students from
TWC, TCJC-S and TCJC-NE got
themselves involved through
their BSU. They took a trip to
La Feria, Texas where they per-
formed manual labor, Bible
School, taught in a revival serv-
ice at the church of Rev. Joe
Martinez Jr.
Great opoprtunities are being
offered by BSU .this semester to,,
get involved. On Mondays and
Fridays from 3-5 p.m. work is be-
ing done with children at Cavile
and Butler Housing Projects, re-
specively. A work program with
Mexican-American children will
be initiated' in the very near fu-
y
ture. In the making also is a tu1
tonal program on Thursday af-
ternoons for area high school
students at Poly Baptist Church.
Take advantage of these oppor-
tunities — get involved.
A retreat will be held the 19
and 20 of February at Mount Le-
banon with 'Sene Bolin as guest
"speaker. For more information

Top TW Coed To Be Picked
From Best Dressed Contest
Goodman Ace, celebrated hu-
morist and columnist for the Sat*
urday Review will appear on
campus Feb. 2 in the Reed Sci-
ence Lecture Theatre at 10:50.
Ace is lauded as one of the
funniest comedy writers in Amer-
ica. Sis topics concern observ-
ances of life in the modern world
of radio, television, and shgjv
business, as well as such diverse
issue*^ as marriage, America, hy-
pochondria, and the Pigeon Pop-
ulation Explosion.
Ace was born in Kansas City,
Missouri, and achieved acclaim
as a radio star. Over thirty audi-
ences will remember him in the
role of Easy Aces, long-suffering
husband of Jane in the classic
radio program.
The name of his column in
Saturday Review is "Top of' May
Head."
Ace has authored numerous hu-
morous books, such as "The Fine
Art' of Hypochondria" and "The
Book of Little Knowledge." His
latest work is "Ladies and Gen-
tlemen, Easy Aces"—which con-
tains original scripts and a re-
cording of his radio program.
He is working on two other
books which are due to be pub-
lished soon.
The appearance of Ace is one
of the scheduled events of the
Celebrity Series, and is planned
for the 10:50 hour so that as
many students who wish may

The most outstanding coed of
Texas Wesleyan College will be
chosen tomorrow at 1:30 dur-
ing the Best -Dressed Contest.
The winner of the TWC contest
will receive, the honor of con-
tinuing on to the finals of the
national Glamour Outstanding
College Coed Contest in New
York.
The contest is sponsored by
Glamour magazine. Participating
colleges pick their top coed and"
send her to the nationals for corn-
s' petition in March. The national
winner will receive recognition
in ^Glamour ^as well as recogni-
tion in newspapers and other me-
dia. All expenses will .be paid
for the photography which ,,will
appear of the winners in the
| August issue.
The winners will also receive
an expense paid educational trip,
the location of Which has not yet
been disclosed. Last -year win-
ners received a 14-day tour of
countries in Europe. Honorable
rnentiotis-wUl^receive a gift from
the ycitors.

will be chosen to attend the
nationals in New York, as well
as two runners-up.
Contestants will meet in Room
202 of the Reed Science Build-
ing. Judging will take place in
the Reed Room. Coeds will ap-
pear in two outfits — one dress-
up and one casual outfit (school
wear). They will be judged first
as individuals when they appear
before'the judges alone, and an-
other time as a group, where
they-- will appear together.
The National competition will
concentrate to a great degree
on the individual's activities in
politics, the wts, social services,
science, honors, fellowship or
field work, as well as the genera!
categories of neatness, poise,
beauty, etc.
Phi Beta Lambda has organ-
ized a game night under the
leadership of Mike Eckroth for
PBL members,
Basketball, ping pong and
„ swimming games will be included.
The date for the event is Feb.

The Texas Wesleyan Best-
Dressed contest will select the
girl who exhibits the greatest
neatness, poise, spontaneity, and
the best general appearance. She
will be judged on her clothing
as well as her ability to answer
questions put to her by the
judges.
Judges will be Mrs. Laura
Sanders, Miss Karen Johnson.
Mr. Neil Duncan. Mr. Flores
and Mr, Hud McWilliams. There

For Spring Rush
Once again the Inter-Fraternity
Council is ^fferin'g a good op-
portunity to ail men on campus.
Men interested in learning more
about the three fraternities on
campus are invited to attend the
Spring Rush Smoker on Jan. 28.
This promises to be a rewarding
and entertaining e%-en®c It is
also a good place to meet some
of the outstanding and popular
men on campus.
This in no way obligates any-
individual and is therefore recom-
mended for all men regardless
of. intentions toward pledgeship.
The Smoker will begin at 8:00
in Stella Russell Lounge. Please
attend.

OFFICIALLY OPEN . . . TWC hosted the house-
warming for the Sid W. Richardson Physical
Fitness Center last Monday. Many important vis-
itors and guests attended the function, thus of-
ficially marking the full utilization of the long-
awaited building. Brochures about the building
were passed out, and refreshments were served.
