Before another issue of the Record
reaches you, Old Santa will have made
his round. We hope not one child in
the community whose beaming smiles
show the joyful expectation that old
Santa will find his stocking and chuck
it full of candy, nuts, etc., will have
that joy and gladness turned to dis-
appointment by an empty stocking on
Christmas morning. For the grown-
ups, too, we wish a merry Christmas
—not an abundance of gifts, necessar-
ily, but an appreciation of the real
spirit of Christmas. We grownups
have long since passed from the fairy-
land of childhood, and Christmas, with
Old Santa, its gay colors, and all the
other trapping does not mean the same
to us. We can never enjoy Christmas
in that same light-hearted manner
again, but with mature years we should
have acquired the capacity for enjoy-
ing the deeper and more satisfying
spirit of toiling and sacrificing to
make loved ones happy. We wish for
you not a hilarious Christmas of de-
bauchery and excitement, not a per-
iod of frivolty that will leave the sting
of remorse to linger after the holidays
are past—but may you drink deep of
the true spirit of Christmas, may we
all fitly commemorate the birth of the
savior of man.

Ennis, Texas, Dec. 9.—A Mexican
woman about 45 years of age was
found strangled to death at Prices
Cross Roads, fourteen miles South-
east of Ennis, Sunday afternoon.
The body was brought to Ennis and
neck, showing strangulation, also
bruises about the right eye. The floor
had been partially taken up, and the
body placed underneath. It was found
by small boys. Officrs believe it had
been there twenty-four hours when
found. A strange truck had been
noticed about the woman’s house.
The body was brought t Ennis and
prepared for burial. No relatives have
been found and the truck is the only
clue to the murderer.
