Timpson ISD to make a change in coaching staff
AD/Head Coach Lucky Gamble submits resignation
By Nancy Alexander
It isn’t always easy to say
“Goodbye” but sometimes nec-
essary. Since being hired at the
end of February of 06, Lucky
Gamble has been preparing the
athletic programs for the 2006-
2007 school year. He has
brought with him a group of tal-
ented young men and women
coaches who have already made
outstanding records for them-
selves.
Dr. Leland Moore, superin-
tendent of Timpson ISD, has
confirmed that Gamble has sub-
mitted his resignation as Ath-
letic Director and Head Coach
due to health problems. Dr.
Moore also stated that the dis-
trict has placed Robert Denton
as the interim person in charge.
The board will have a meeting
Friday evening at 6:30 pm
which will provide opportunity
to officially accept or reject the
Lucky Gamble
resignation as presented.
Robert Denton is a very ca-
pable coach and was previously
coached by Gamble while in
high school. He also worked
with Gamble in the Chilton ISD.
When talking with Denton, it is
obvious he is very knowledgable
and works well with the students
and other coaches.
It is regrettable that Lucky
Gamble has to leave the athletic
department. So many locals
were really looking forward to
seeing the end results of the foot-
ball team’s coaching this year.
The school can still become a
number one football team with
the full support of the coaches
who have joined the team this
year and have been working
daily with the Bears. Coaches
Robert Denton, Larry Spacek,
Lance Gamble, Randy Way,
Kyle Ivey, Lupe Gaona, and
Jesse Heredia have been coach-
ing under the direction of AD

The regular meeting of the
Tenaha City Council met on
August 21 at 5:15 p.m. in the
Tenaha City Hall. Mayor Bow-
ers called the meeting to order
and the following council mem-
bers were present: Albert
Burns, Mark Hixson, Fran
Partin, and Marie Crawford.
Lucky Gamble and although he
won’t be on the field the rest of
the year, we will still have a
“Lucky” touch during the
games.
Doyce Bailey read the min-
utes of the previous meeting
and they were approved by the
council. Next on the agenda
was a letter of resignation from
Leonard Anstead. Due to his
health he was moved to Ath-
ens, Texas to be closer to his
son. Everyone will miss the
“Ole Judge” Our prayers go
with him. Doyce presented the
Quarterly Investment Report
to the council. She was also ap-
pointed Designate Public Infor-
mation Coordinator for Open
Records Training. The prelimi-
nary budget FY 2006-2007
was discussed. It will be about
$69,000.00 more than last
year. The proposed FY 2006
tax rate will probably be $0.28.
This is down 1 cent from last
year. The budget and tax rate
will be set at next council meet-
ing.

The main focus of the Au-
gust meeting of the Timpson
Area Chamber of Commerce
was the brick paver project
known as the “Walk of Reflec-
tion” coordinated by Tempie
Pike, Chamber director and
President of the Timpson Area
Genealogical and Heritage So-
ciety (TAGHS).
She gave an indepth report
on the “Walk of Reflection”
engraved brick paving project.
The walk will be constructed
in Timpson downtown Park
Plaza, exact placement to be
determined. The brick will be
engraved with a wide variety
of personal messages that will
be permanently set and visible
for years to come. A number
of orders have been received
and planned mailings to out-
of-towners will be completed
soon. Timpson & Tenaha News
has agreed to put a copy of the
reservation form in the news-
paper.
Tempie reminded chamber
members that bricks can be
used to commemorate birth-
days, anniversaries, family
names, ancestors, military ser-
vice, high school or college
class graduation, business, or-
ganization, or other memorable
event or honor. Any brick can
say “In Memory of’ or “In
Honor of’ on the first line.
Each brick cost $50 and will
allow for up to four lines of
text, 15 spaces in each line.
Bricks are two different sizes,
3/4” lettering with three lines
and 11 spaces and 5/8 “
letttering with 4 lines and 15
spaces on each line. Both sizes

Timpson Volunteer Fire Department
Members of the Timpson Volunteer Fire Department displaying their four SCBA’s (Self
Contained Breathing Apparatus) recently purchased. These are all Scott 2.2 units, which are
one of the most up to date versions available. TVFD was able to purchase these units because
of the generosity and support of our community. With this goal met, the new tank truck still
needs to be outfitted with a water tank. When this truck is finished we will be able to greatly
increase the amount of water we can bring to a fire where water hydrants are not available.
This will give TVFD the ability to extinguish fires faster, thus saving more of your homes and
property. Kneeling: Greg Hailey, Tracy Lee Middle Row: Marcus Harber, Lenny Gaddis,

“Labor Day STEP Wave” Enforcement
From August 22 through
Sept. 4 the Timpson City
Marshal’s Office will be out
in force, participating in the
“Labor Day” S.T.E.P. Wave
enforcement mobilization, ac-
cording to City Marshal Jeff
Clopp.
In 2005, Texas has a safety
belt use increase of 7 percent-
age points, moving from
83.2% to 89.9%. For Texas,
National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration esti-
mates that up to 185 fatalities
and 3,000 serious injuries are
expected to be prevented, and
$600 million in economic costs
saved.
“We appreciate the fact that
many more people in Texas are
using their safety belts, but
there are still a lot of people in
this jurisdiction who still don’t
think they need to buckle up.
Buckling up is easy and smart.
Law enforcement agencies will
be writing tickets for the
people who just don’t get it yet.
It’s simple. Click It or Ticket,”
Marshal Clopp said.
The Timpson City
Marshal’s Office is also par-
ticipating in an educational
campaign to convince pickup
truck occupants in Arkansas,
Louisiana, New Mexico, Okla-
homa, Texas and the Indian
Nations to wear their safety
belts. Well over a million
pickup drivers and passengers
in the five state region are still
not buckling up, resulting in
more than 1,000 pickup occu-
pants dying every year in traf-
fic crashes. Pickup trucks in
fatal crashes roll over twice as
often as passenger cars. Wear-
ing your safety belt reduces the
risk of dying in a rollover crash
by up to 80%. “This educa-
tional campaign is needed in
our state. In Texas, safety belt
use in pickup trucks is 4 per-
centage points lower than
overall use in the state.
“Buckle Up in Your Truck” is
more than a campaign slogan.
Its good advice that people can
live with every day.” Alcohol-
related traffic fatalities also are
down for the second straight
year. State officials also cited
findings from the National
Highway Traffic Safety Ad-
ministration (NHTSA) show-
ing traffic deaths in Texas
caused by impaired drivers
have dropped by 13 percent in
the past two years. Federal of-
ficials report that 130 fewer
people died in Texas last year
in alcohol-related crashes than
in 2003.Thanks to more mo-
torists using safety belts and
fewer drunk drivers on the
road, Texas posted the largest
reduction in the United States
in the number of traffic fatali-
ties in 2004. Though 238 fewer
people were killed in traffic
crashes in Texas last year, the
Lone Star State continues to
lead the nation in annual traf-
fic deaths.
