Thursday Already! In Tenaha
^ Voice of Doyce
What a beautiful day! Well
really four in a row. Sunshine
always makes us feel so much
better. When Marie Williams
was in town more, she always
made us feel better. Her nick-
name has always been “Sun-
shine”. I hope the way they are
predicting approach of Spring
to be soon is correct. I don’t
need much winter. You have
every right to remind me of this
when the temperatures ap-
proach 100 degrees and I am
complaining about the heat
wave.
A great big “Happy Birth-
day” to Dennis Permenter this
weekend. He tells me that he
will be 72. Some of us really
don’t mind telling our ages.
Does not take a rocket scientist
to come within a year for us that
were born and grew up here.
Just get one of the USD annu-
als and research. I saw in our
church newsletter that Michelle
Haltom, Dianne Cross, Lee
Broadus, Larry Smith and Faye
Thompson are others celebrat-
ing birthdays.
Will be family night at FBC,
Tenaha this Saturday starting
a 6:00 p.m. Bring snacks and
come for fellowship that will
include table games. Ryan
Atwood may even have a table
of that crazy card game of his.
Then all the men (all ages) are
invited to have breakfast the
next morning at 8:00 a.m.
This includes all men in the
community.
The Tenaha Methodist
Church had their breakfast
this past Sunday and Eddie
tells me that it was a good
crowd there. It is wonderful
for men to be able to fellow-
ship together and have a
mouth watering meal also.
We had one of the largest
crowds ever at Tenaha’s Birth-
day. I really think that I say
that every year. I personally
wish to thank all those that at-
tended, took part in the pro-
gram, and helped with it. A
very special “thank you” to
Debbie Denton who formated
the program.
Eddie and I played BINGO
at the Tenaha ISD Cafeteria
last Saturday. The proceeds are
to be used towards Good Be-
havior Field Trips for students
at the Elementary School. My
money played out way before
I ever won a prize.
This will be short this week.
Figured I needed to get some-
thing in the paper or I’ll lose
my spot.

with the Worship service at
10:45am. Choir rehearsal is

Sue was visiting with Mary
Graves and Patricia was visit-
ing with Julian Peddy.
Scripture Reading was from
I Corinthians 15:1-11. The
Resurrection of Christ
1) Now, brothers, I want to
remind you of the gospel I
preached to you, which you re-
ceived and on which you have
taken your stand. 2 By this gos-
pel you are saved, if you hold
firmly to the word I preached to
you. Otherwise, you have be-
lieved in vain.
3 )For what I received I
passed on to you as of first im-
portance: that Christ died for our
sins according to the Scriptures,
4 )that he was buried, that he was
raised on the third day accord-
ing to the Scriptures, 5 )and that
he appeared to Peter, and then to
the Twelve. 6 )After that, he ap-
peared to more than five hundred
of the brothers at the same time,
most of whom are still living,
though some have fallen asleep.
7 )Then he appeared to James,
then to all the apostles, 8* and
last of all he appeared to me also,
as to one abnormally born.
9) For I am the least of the
apostles and do not even deserve
to be called an apostle, because
I persecuted the church of God.
10) But by the grace of God I am
what I am, and his grace to me
was not without effect. No, I
worked harder than all of them—
yet not I, but the grace of God
that was with me. 11 Whether,
then, it was I or they, this is what
we preach, and this is what you
believed.
The sermon was titled “Last
and the Least”. In Paul’s view
he was the last & the least of
the apostles. Read the complete
sermon on our web site. If you
don’t have access to the web
site you may call the church and
request a copy. All of the ser-
mons, pictures from socials, etc.
are posted on http://

Upcoming events: 1) Cel-
ebrate Recovery is on Thurs-
day evenings at 7:00pm. We
meet in the fellowship hall for
group worship, we then divide
up into a men’s group and a la-
dies’ group for discussion. The
2 groups come back together for
closure and fellowship. Any-
one is welcome to join the group
- the only requirement is the
acknowledgement that what
goes on at Celebrate Recovery
is private and stays with Cel-
ebrate Recovery. The group has
been growing. We are consid-
ering having the women meet
one night and the men another
night with the group worship
being one of those nights.
2)The United Methodist
Women usually meet at
10:00am on the 1st and 3rd Tues-
day of each month, but this
month the 1st meeting of the
month will be on February 13.
2)Fellowship Dinner is usu-
ally on the second Wednesday
of the month. This month it falls
on Valentine’s Day - February
14th. The meal starts at 6:3 0pm.
People start arriving about
6:00pm for early fellowship.
The hostesses are usually mak-
ing final preparations around
5:30pm. Hope to see y’all there.
Recent events: 3) Men’s
Prayer Breakfast is on the first
Sunday of each month. Febru-
ary 4th the men had a good time
with good Christian Fellowship.
4)Tenaha’s 121st Birthday-
was celebrated with a party at
2:00pm on Friday, February 2nd
at the First Baptist Church. The
honoree this year was Hope
Project’s Tenaha Clinic. There
was a good crowd present.
Prayer requests continue for
many individuals and families in
our community. A list is printed
on the back of the bulletin each
week with names brought forth
during the service. Dale Dykes
of Leslie Bradley’s family had
surgery on February 5th. Today’s
update on Mrs. Laura Bowers -
she has been moved to Willis
Knighten’s Rehabilitation. A
family with connections to
Tenaha had 2 children removed
by Child Protective Services and
the children were placed in the
Dallas area. This family, the
children, the CPS workers,and
the foster family all need to be
in our prayers.
Praise reports: Wes &
Victoria Bradley are still preg-
nant. My brother W.J. Bryan
Brennion was 60 today - Happy
Birthday.
Meditation: Keep your
face to the sunshine and you

gives our church such a big lift
on Sunday morning. He does
such a good job leading our
singing when he is home.

oping a Positive Christian At-
titude.” How do we develop a
positive Christian attitude in
our lives? (1) First of all, we’ll
find that we need to FILL OUR
MINDS WITH POSITIVE
THINGS. This is the beginning
point. If we fail to do this, then
nothing else will help in devel-
oping a good attitude. Nega-
tive thoughts can undo and kill
any amount of progress we
have made in our positive out-
look. The mind has to have
something to build on. With
what do we fill our minds?
Romans 12:2- “And be not
conformed to this world: but
be ye transformed by the re-
newing of your mind, that ye
may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect,
will of God.
(2). Then let’s start putting
those thoughts into action.
Let’s start SPEAKING UP-
LIFTING WORDS. Remem-
ber how we’ve talked about
how powerful the tongue is?
Well, both in a negative AND
a positive way. How many of
us don’t enjoy hearing nice
things said about us or our
families? Not flattery and lies,
now, true kind words, spoken
from someone’s heart. Whole-
some words can do wonders
for people, and we find that it
helps not only those who hear
them, but those who speak
them as well. You see, we can’t
say something unless we think
first. We become that kind of
person. Psalms 141:3- “Set a
watch, O’LORD, before my
mouth; keep the door of my
lips.
(3) . Then it is essential to
develop and maintain a posi-
tive attitude, to LOOK FOR
THE GOOD IN EVERY PER-
SON. There is beauty in most
every situation and there is
defintely SOMETHING posi-
tive in everyone. Luke 23:34-
“Then said Jesus, Father, for-
give them; for they know not
what they do. And they parted
his rainment, and cast lots.”
(4) . Finally, once we’ve be-
gun to build our positive Chris-
tian attitude, we’re to be on
guard. NEVER GIVE IN TO
NEGATIVE THINKING.
Now that surely goes in our
very large, “easier said than
done” list, but it should be our
constant work in progress.
When people hurt or anger us,
that’s when we find out just
how “thin skinned” we are, but
we’re to resist the temptations
to let our emotions control US
in a negative way.
Put something positive in
the place of the negative! Ro-
mans 12:21- “Be not overcome
of evil, but overcome evil with
good.”
