Inks of Two Cities
By Florence Reeh & Others
TENAHA BRAGGIV ..We
appreciated a gift from City Sec’y
Doyce Bailey, THS ‘54, a paint-
ing of the Texas Flag on a shingle
from the Tennessee school house
and framed with 100-year-old
wood from the area. It’s a fine
painting and is hanging in our of-
fice. Others, including former
Supt. Dana Williams and prin-
cipal at Tennessee received
flags...the school was closed in
1942 and the district divided be-
tween Tenaha and Timpson. Also
noticed a display of art work at
Medico North done by Iris
Erwin Wooley, THS ‘44 ...it is
really a fine work, also a display
at the Snack Shack. Iris and the
late Sapho Wooley lived in Hous-
ton for many years before return-
ing to their roots. Both ladies aare
part of an art group including
Carolyn (Ben) Hooker and
Joan Ballou, they meet weekly
following the craft.
NICE YARD...take a ride
doown FM 947 S to see the nice
yard of Tom & Julie
Reader...it took lots of work to
beautify the old creek area near
their home...
Good to know that our banker,
Don Dial and Hilliard’s Cross-
ing owner, John Hilliard have re-
turned home after a days in a
Tyler hospital. Also noticed some
extra work done by our friend,
Donald Hataway, in mowing the
church property and along the
Pilgrims from page 1
Mexico which negatively affected
sales prices. The quarter was also
negatively impacted by January ice
storms in Arkansas, higher energy
costs, acquisition integration costs
and losses experienced in the
former WLR Foods, Inc." stated
David Van Hoose, Chief Executive
Officer, President and Chief Op-
erating Officer for the company.
Mr. Van Hoose further stated that
"despite the poor results realized in
the current quarter, we remain con-
fident that overall our long-term
business strategy will enable our
Company to continue to be one of
the industry's best performers in the
years to come."_
roads...takes us all to keep things
looking nice. Keep believing, there
are better things ahead for
TENANA! (ahb).
OFFICE .Gloria McLeod
of Houston, formerly of Timpson,
was in Monday. She just returned
from an Irish Festival and stopped
by to tell us she enjoys the paper.
Everyone likes to go to the
TAGHS office. A lot of research
goes on there.
TIMPSON...With all the un-
fortunate events that have oc-
curred lately, we are sorry to re-
port that Timpson Texaco was
vandalized a couple of weeks ago.
Sarah said it looked like whoever
did it was trying to shake money
out of the vending machine out
front and broke the window. Noth-
ing was missing, but it costs money
to get a plate glass window re-
placed. So our word to the creeps
is “stop it!” Find some other form
of entertainment. Go to church!
BLAIR...Doris Askins is not
feeling like writing her column this
week. She’ll be back next week.
By the way, we haven’t seen
John and Ruth Tyson in a while.
Hope they are okay.
BOBO...George Green
came by to check on a ribbon
cutting at Dollar General Thurs-
day. Yep, that’s when it will be at
10 a.m. Come on out and join the
crowd.
TIMPSON...Tempie Pike is
back from a trip. Good to see her.
TIMPSON...Gail Hairgrove
just broke the hearts of lots of la-
dies. She announced that son,
Burt, is getting married. Oh, well!
TENAHA...Doyce Bailey,
City Secretary, wanted to know
just how much work Hilda Pena,
Timpson City Secretary accom-
plished last week. I don’t know
yet, but if grass grows as fast at
her house as it does mine, she was
very busy if she hoes or mows.
TIMPSON...Sammy Joe
Eldredge, pastor of Timpson
Missionary Baptist, had day sur-
gery Tuesday and is home. He has
to hurry and recuperate to attend
the revival the first week in June.
SILAS...Nancy Stephens
came by...she and Herman are
now homeless persons. They
have sold their home in Silas and
she needs an acre or smaller to
put a home on. She is crying and
scared and tired as an old turtle
from all the mowing and weed-
ing. So help her out here. She is a
good person, mother, grandmom
and devoted wife and she writes
a column each week.
OFFICE...the label machine
is out and we could be doing la-
bels in long hand this week. Oh,
woe is me! We will be out of the
office Friday since Doug has an
appointment with the doctor. Will
let you know next week how it
turns out.
TENAHA... Saw Judge
Anstead Monday. He is still up
and about and doing well. He says
he is 89 years old. He sure looks
good. Best wishes to him.

Jeff Hoover. Jeff Hoover was a
trooper in Iowa in 1977. He was
with the Canine Police in
Longview and then moved to
Colorado for 12 years. He is now
employed with Interquest which
now covers twenty-two school dis-
tricts in Northeast Texas. Hoover
covers all of Northeast Texas. He
says the program is a deterrent to
drugs. The company has an as-
sembly at school so the students
may meet the dogs, and pet them
Hoover works with dog named
Joost, a Dutch Shepherd, that is
very unusual looking since he is
brindle in color and has smooth
hair. The dog is real positive at
schools and is different than po-
lice dogs since he can sniff out pre-
scription drugs, different types of
medication, gun powder and alco-
hol. He works parking lots, lock-
ers, backpacks, purses, and jack-
ets, etc. Joost located six guns at
school last year.

Where is that creek that folks
are sometimes “up?” Or the limb
they are sometimes “out”on?
Ever hear anyone say, “that
was as easy as falling off a log!”
Is a “tall tale”a fib about a big
tree or a high pole? Who origi-
nated that?
What is a “rabbit punch?” Like
a “left jab” or a “haymaker?” Just
what?
Ever hear the expression, “If
the shoe fits, wear it? How did that
originate?
When you see some one turn a
flip, how did that become “upsy
daisy?”
Who substituted the phrase,
“Don’t bug me” for “let me
alone?”
