Teachings from the Bible

John 4:24 “God is a Spirit: and they Joshua24: 14,15 “Now therefore Punishment does not come so swift
that worship Him, must worship Him
in spirit and in truth.”
John 8: 31, 32 “Then Jesus said to
those Jews which believed on Him, if
ye continue in my word, then ye are
my disciples indeed: And ye shall
know the truth and the truth shall make
you free.”
Just what is the truth?
John 14: 6 “Jesus saith unto him, I
am the way, and the truth and the life:
no man cometh to the Father, but by
me.”
Luke 6: 46 “Why call ye me, Lord,
Lord, and do not the things I say””
These statements are so plainly
spoken and easy understood that I
marvel that the world can have so
many diverse ideas as to what the
truth is.
The truth is, God gives us a choice,
and always keeps His word to reward
according to our actions.
fear the Lord, and serve him in sin-
cerity and in truth: and put away the
gods which your fathers served on
the other side of the flood, and in
Egypt, and serve ye the Lord. And if
it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord,
choose you this day whom ye will
serve; whether the gods which your
fathers served that were on the other
side of the flood, or the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but
as for me and my house, we will serve
the Lord.” Remember Lot’s wife? God
told them what they must do, but she
chose to look back. Gen. 19: 17 “And
it came to pass when they had
brought them forth abroad that he
said, Escape for thy life, look not be-
hind thee, neither stay thou in all the
plains; escape unto the mountain, lest
thou be consumed.” Gen. 19: 26 “But
Lot’s wife looked back from behind
him and she became a pillar of salt.”

This week’s column, which
discussses the feast of Paul’s con-
version celebrated on the 25th, was
intended to coincide with the Jan. 25th
issue, but an oversight caused it to
be out of sync. We are sorry for this
error.
When Stephen, the first Christian
martyr, was being stoned because of
his faith, Paul (called Saul) watched
in approval. That day sparked perse-
cution against the church, sending
Christians in Jerusalem throughout
Judea and Samaria in fear. At the head
of the persecution was Paul, who
made it his mission to destroy all Chris-
tianity.
Ironically, Paul would later become
the apostle who did more to spread
the Christian religion than anyone up
to that point and time. He became a
leader in establishing a worldwide
church within forty years of Jesus’
death and by example showed Chris-
tians how to face persecution with
courage and faith. Jan. 25, the feast of
St. Paul’s conversion, shall be remem-
bered.
After Stephen’s death, Paul threat-
ened Christians with arrest and death
for some time. He sought and received
permission from higher authority to
travel to Damascus to arrest Chris-
tians. In route to Damascus, there was
a flash of light around him, he fell to
the ground and heard a voice saying,
Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?
Saul asked, Who are you, Sir? Jesus
answered, I am whom you are perse-
cuting. Now get up and go into the
city and you will be told what to do.
Paul, who could not see was led by
his companions into Damascus where
a disciple named Ananias restored his
sight. After several days with Jesus’
disciples, Paul embraced the faith of
the Christians he once victimized and
began preaching about Jesus. His
sudden transformation from persecu-
tor to preacher astonished his listen-
ers.
After may days of powerful
preaching in Damascus, the Jews
sought to have Paul killed. He man-
aged to elude them and fled to Jerusa-
lem where he stayed with Peter for
many days. Paul had a suspicious
reception from the other disciples
until Bamabus interceded for him, re-
lating the details of his conversion.
Paul traveled extensively preach-
ing and establishing churches. His
activities are recorded in Acts of the
Apostles and his letters to the
churches he established tell his de-
sire to preach was deterred by the
physical, emotional or spiritual resis-
tance he received on his journeys.
Paul’s ambitious mission began at
the church Antioch where he and
Bamabus were commissioned.
From Antioch, Paul set off on his
first missionary journey, just as en-
thusiastic for the cause of Christ as
he had previously been zealous for
the destruction of those who be-
lieved in Christ.
During Paul’s imprisonment, he
wrote to the Philipians, Ephesians,
Colossians, and Philemon. History
records a letter from Clement of
Rome to the Corinthians, written
about A.D. 96, which is an epitaph
to Paul, commending his exemplary
life and his notable pattern of pa-
tient endurance.
today, but be assured it will come.
Heb. 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same
yesterday, today and forever.”
1 Peter 1: 17 “ And if ye call on the
Father, who without respect of persons
judgeth according to every man’s
work, pass the time of your adjourn-
ing here in fear.”
Rev. 20: 13-15“ And the sea gave
up her dead which were in it; and death
and hell delivered up the dead which
were in them: and they were judged
every man according to their works,
and death and hell were cast into the
lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found writ-
ten in the book of life was cast into the
lake of fire.”
Rev. 22: 18, 19 “For I testify unto
every man that heareth the words of
the prophesy of this book, If any man
shall add unto these things, God shall
add unto him the plagues that are writ-
ten in this book. And if any man shall
take away from the words of the book
of this prophesy, God shall take away
his part out of the book of life, and out
of the holy city, and from the things
which are written in this book.”
To worship in tmth we must return
to the Bible, which is God’s Word, for
the truth. If you are not walking in the
Apostles’ doctrine, you are not wor-
shipping in truth.
2 Tim. 2: 15'“ Study to show your-
self approved unto God, a workman
that needeth be ashamed, rightly di-
viding the word of truth.”
The Church of Christ that gathers
in Timpson invites you to come study
and learn with us. God’s truth can only
be found in his word.
John 1: 1 “In the beginning was
the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.”

WATCH OUT, joining a group
of gossips...it is someone else
when you walk up. Who is it

SEEDS FROM THE
SOWER
He was one of those David
and Goliath politicians. He
was either stoned or slinging
it.
But the sin that once
charmed him soon chained
him.
One said to him, “Sign this
pledge never to drink again,
and keep it.” “Ma’am,” he
cried, “ I can’t keep anything.
I need someone to keep me.”
Then he met Jesus, and
prayed, “Lord, save me or I
perish: and keep me.” The
Lord did. He went from sigh-
ing to singing, from grief to
glory, from being a victim to
sin to being a victor over sin.
Wouldn’t you like to trust
our wonderful Lord and Sav-
ior?

Turn back to God
The Bible says that the leopard
had four heads, a strange creature.
Today, we do not have a friend in
this world.. .We have given our money
away and do not have a friend in this
world. We are hated from one end to
another. The Congolese killed and ate
our missionaries like Paul Tucker.
You did not see a rising up in this
country to kill everything that moved
just because the had happened.
(Hold this) Yes, we have a friend, His
name is Jesus. Clendennen spoke,
saying that he was in Africa two days
after Martin Luther King was assas-
sinated in Memphis and had the aw-
ful rousing, “Go home, Yankee! You
kill black men! ” Clendennen said that
he told a fellow that he had never
killed a black man. What are you talk-
ing about? That was one man. That
was not America. But we (Ameri-
cans) are hated everywhere. Out on
a hill in that same town of Dares Sa-
laam, there is a $3,000,000 University
Building built with mine and your
money and it is used to train commu-
nists.
The Bible says this leopard had
four heads, four sets of eyes. That
means he is looking in every direc-
tion (24:7) at you and I. That radar in
that dew line is looking in every di-
rection because it was an unwanted
thing. The people of Germany are ex-
periencing the greatest prosperity
they have ever had. France has got it
so well. But they have it so good be-
cause of the American dollar and be-
cause of the protection that we have
afforded them over there. They have
because that leopard’s dominion has
held the peace in the earth and we
are hated today because of it. It said
he had four sets of eyes. He was in
constant alert. But that leopard is
coming home.
God the Father, God the Son, is
unwel come in some of our lives. But
we need to turn to Him for He is the
one and only one holding the peace.
That leopard is coming home from
Europe from Europe and Asia. It
means that we are coming to the end
of our dominion. World leadership is
being relinquished. Eric Severeid said
that the half has not been told. They
are coming in from across the world
at 20,000 a month. He said it was go-
ing to be an avalanche of pressure
put on Nixon to bring those boys
home and with a pulling in of that
leopard’s wings, hell is going to break
loose on this earth. There is nothing
that has held the peace but the do-
minion given America in this world.
She is beginning to gather up her
stock and put a pack on her back.
That leopard is heading back to
America. Clendennen said that he was
talking to a man who said America’s
plan was to hide behind a missile
shield. There is a great desolation plan
on in this countiy whether we want
to believe it or not, but to hide behind
a shield and tell the rest of the world
to get lost. You did not appreciate us
while we were there. We face a para-
dox.
There is a shield that we can hide
behind and it is the Solid Rock. My
hope is built on nothing less than
Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I
dare not trust the sweetest frame, but
wholly lean on Jesus’ name. When
darkness veils his lovely face, I rest
on His unchanging grace, in every
high and steamy gale, my anchor holds
within veil. His oath, His covenant,
His blood supports me in the
whelming flood. When all around my
soul gives way, He, then is all my
hope and stay. When He shall come
with trumpet sound, O, may I then in
Him be found. Dressed in His righ-
teousness alone, faultless to stand
before the throne. On Christ the Solid
Rock I stand, all other ground is sink-
ing sand, all other ground is sinking
sand.

REACTION TO JESUS—In the sixth
chapter of his gospel, Mark records
two contrasting reactions to Jesus.
His teachings and His work. In His
hometown the people rejected Him
because they had known Him and His
family, and did not believe that Lie
could be the Son of God. They were
astonished at His teachings, but were
unbelieving (verses 2 & 6).
However, Jesus later fed 5,000 men
plus women and children with five
loaves of bread and two fish which
He miraculously multiplied. That
same night, He amazed His disciples
by walking on the sea out to the boat
they were in. As He did that, He
calmed the sea and the wind, demon-
strating His great power over nature.
The reaction to those in the boat was
that “they worshipped Him, saying,
‘You are certainly God’s Son! ’”
Which is typical of your reaction to
the teaching and work of Jesus—do
you reject them or do you recognize
Him as God’s Son and worship and
obey Him?
