Timpson ISD approves budget, hires Elem. principal
Timpson ISD Board of Trust-

budget workshop, with the dis-
trict personnel providing infor-
mation to the board of projec-
tions of revenue and income for
the 2006-07 school year.
All members of the board

Dannie Hunt, and Jesse
Bownds. Superintendent Dr.
Leland Moore along with cen-
tral office personnel, Debbie
Golden, Janie Rains, and Valerie
Moore were also included in the
meeting.
Dr. Moore stated that he and
others had been in Austin meet-
ing with TASB and that HB1 has
some problems with the state’s
interpretation. It provides a tem-
plate (which has been modified
several times) to calculate state
revenues.
This year’s budget is based
on a !.37 M&O tax rate and 9
cents INS (which is a 13 cents
decrease as it stands. There will
be a meeting August 29th to
adopt a tax rate. Moore indi-
cated that the district predicts
$3,516,874 in state funds and
the State predicts $2,942,150.
The district should receive about
$400,000 more than the state
predicts. In a comparison to pre-
vious budget, $424,000 is pro-
jected as surplus in the budget
by September. The new budget

WAS THE ALLIGATOR CROSSING THE ROAD OR WHAT?— Last week, Jerry Rhodes
was driving his truck down a dirt road near his home when he saw something in the road. At
first, he thought he would just run over it. Seeing that it was a small gator, he decided to see
if he could get a closer look. Nobody really wants alligators in ponds or low water areas near
their home. With the help of a small forked stick, he was able to capture the gator. That
evening he turned the alligator over to the local game warden. So the people that live around
Jerry can thank him for capturing one gator, but this was not a very large one so others may
be lurking in the ponds and creeks in the area. This gator was between 3 and 4 feet long. Who
knows what a person might drive upon in East Texas. Photo by Clark Partin
