In Tenaha!
—The Tenaha Lodge
met Tuesday evening at 6:30.
After a good meal, members
went into closed Lodge for a
monthly business meeting.
There was a good group
present and the topic of dis-
cussion was the tax exempt
status authorized by the state,
county, city and school dis-
trict. This will help the lodge
do more for the area in chari-

Rhodes presents program at
Valentine meeting for Delta Gamma
By Nancy Ritch
Delta Kappa Gamma en-
joyed their February meeting
surrounded by beautiful Val-
entine decorations and with a
feast of Mexican food entrees
provided by Rita Coan, cafete-
ria manager in the Timpson
Elementary School.
This year’s officers,
Beverly Harris, Nelda
Hearnsberger, LaVonne
Wood, and Tommie Thomas
presided over the meeting and
event, welcoming all the mem-
bers. Following the meal, a
short business meeting was
held and everyone promptly
entered into the classroom of
Cindy Rhodes for a very in-
teresting program.
Rhodes demonstrated an
innovative way to combine
teaching her history class and
modern computer technology
to give visualization of her sub-
ject and capture the interest
of students. Using her com-
puter, scanner, printer, and
transparency sheets, she cre-
ated images of historical sub-
jects or events to be placed
onto a projector. This gives
Cindy Rhodes
each student something to vi-
sualize which helps to hold at-
tention.
Another interesting phase
of computer technology in the
classroom is the use of the
internet. Cindy has a link on
the Timpson ISD website
which can be accessed di-
rectly. She attributed Beverly
Tippett with providing the de-
tailed linking.
There are many interesting
learning tools for students
through working on a com-
puter. Cindy has placed study
reviews, games, puzzles, and
quizzes on her link from the
website and students can en-
joy learning. Most students
have home access to comput-
ers, but if there are some who
do not, the Timpson Chamber
of Commerce office has avail-
able computers connected to
the internet. She explained
that Region 7 has a workshop
available for instruction on cre-
ating links to web pages.
Following the program,
Gloria Fiedler made a colorful
and entertaining presentation
of door prizes. She gave a
wonderful floor mat with hand
painting and inscribed “Kids
Are Close To My Heart”, and
read a special book made from
different candies, entitled
“Goodbar Saga and Story of
The Goodbars”. This was also
given as a prize.
Did You Know?
By Tom Reader
That the State of Texas
Employee salaries and wages
from September 2000 to Feb-
ruary 2001 totals $3,889.5 mil-
lion. Public safety and correc-
tions totals $1,688.1 million.
For the same period. Educa-
tion totals $11,265.3 million.
That’s just six months for only
three state programs. The to-
tal spent by our state for one
half of the year is $29,163.8
million. Count the zeros tax-
payers. That is in billions of
dollars spent.

Green shows the Timpson Area History
Timpson Area History Book
C Valentine
By George T. Green
Very good progress is be-
ing made on this important
book! The publisher has been
selected and information is
coming in regularly. Everyone
is encouraged to get your fam-
ily history and story in before
the targeted April 1 st deadline.
You may regret it if your fam-
ily story is not in this book!
Featured in this project are the
stories of Timpson, twenty sur-
rounding communities, indi-
vidual families and more.
We want to repeat that
this will be a high quality piece
of work that you will want in
your home library. Your fam-
ily story will be included
FREE, including one photo-
graph.
The committee wants to
communicate to all families lo-
cated throughout the Timpson
area, especially the outlying
residences. Stories are being
submitted regularly by persons
living in the Timpson vicinity,
so this is as effort to reach
others living further out. We
have considered mailing no-
tices, however, the cost of
mailing is prohibitive. An ad-
vertisement is being placed in
the Shelby County
Merchandizer which is deliv-
ered to every household in the
area. We ask that you discuss
this opportunity with your fam-
ily and neighbors so they may
be able to participate.
You may want to place
your order for one (or more)
of these books at the pre-pub-
lication price of $48.25 (which
includes tax). The price may
be $75.00 or more after publi-
cation.
Everyone, near and far,
bring your family stories in
NOW to the Timpson Gene-
alogy Library on Bremond
Street or mail to RO. Box 726,
Timpson, TX 75975 or call
254-3500 if you have questions
or need assistance.
