WHAT SAITH THE SCRIPTURES ?
San Augustine Church of Christ
There is no perfect transla-
tion—at least
not in the sense
that no version
is without some
legitimate criti-
cism, some to a
greater degree
than others.
This stems from
the human element involved in
the translation process. While
Grace and peace from our
brother Jesus, Amen! Sunday
was the Seventeenth Sunday af-
ter Pentecost and the Twenty -
second Sunday of Ordinary
time. It was good seeing every-
one after taking off last Sunday.
I spent five days in Dallas help-
ing my daughter, Megan move.
She has moved to Uptown in
Dallas. Many young people are
moving back to the downtown
area. She has a real nice apart-
ment and she and her faithful
dog Raven are pretty much
moved in. I went to church last
Sunday with my mother at
Bethany Lutheran Church. It is
a real friendly, active church and
I also live to visit when I am in
Dallas. Mona preached for me
last Sunday and the next two
Sundays she is preaching at
Tenaha UMC and Stockman
UMC.I taught the Young Adult
Bible Class this morning and re-
ally enjoyed being with the
the process of translation does
not impeach the inspiration of
God’s Holy Scriptures there is
still a judicial element wherein
the translator makes interpretive
decisions in an attempt to con-
vey meaning from one language
to another. This being the case,
there is bound to be disagree-
ments among sincere Bible stu-
dents concerning the merits and
values of various modern ver-
sions on the market.
In view of this no one should
ever be classified as liberal or
modernistic on the basis of the
version one uses. Doctrinal in-
tegrity is determined by what
one actually teaches rather than
the version one reads from. I
found myself heeding this advice
just recently. A young preacher
came from out of town to teach
Sundav morning Bible class in
a particular congregation. He
was currently in the process of
raising financial support to sub-
sidize his education at a repu-
table preacher training school.
By all reports he did an excel-
lent job in teaching the class. But
some were disconcerted because
he read out of a version with
which they were unfamiliar—
something other than the King
James Version.

young adults. They bring so
much to the class and are so ea-
ger to learn more and more about
the Bible and the ways of God.
My wife Sue is teaching the
teenage class this year and
Gayle is teaching the elementary
age class. The Pre-School class
is taught by Rosemary, Jeannie,
and Madeline.The Old Testa-
ment Lesson came from Exodus
12: 1—14. These scriptures de-
scribe how the Israelites are to
celebrate the Passover. The story
of the Passover is such a power-
ful story of liberation from op-
pression and abuse and is a liv-
ing story to this day. We cel-
ebrated communion today and
remember that when Jesus broke
bread and shared wine with his
friends it was in celebration of
Passover. Just as the ancient Is-
raelites we too need to be liber-
ated from our sinful and selfish
ways.The Adult Bible Study will
start up again on Wednesday at
6:00 AM. We will take up with
“The Covenant People” and we
will look at Abraham and his
descendants.This month,
Joaquin Christian Services have
been collecting macaroni and
cheese during the Sundays of
September. The first Sunday of
each month a collection is taken
up for Joaquin Christian Ser-
vices. The Joaquin Christian
Services House has been very
busy this month. Unfortunately,
some people have been dump-
ing unusable stuff, broken elec-
tronic devices, and even pup-
pies! Joaquin Christian Services
does not need any adult cloth-
ing or computer equipment. If
you have children’s clothing,
working appliances, furniture or
kitchen supplies to donate please
call the church at 269-3661 and
set up a time to have someone
meet you to accept your dona-
tion. Please do not just leave
sacks or boxes of stuff in the
yard or beside the house. Your
help is appreciated.Prayer
Breakfast is Thursday at 8:00
AM. Last week we prayed for
the people in the way of Hurri-
cane Gustov and it looks like
everyone needs to be praying for
people in the path of those hur-
ricanes that are forming in the
ocean. Everyone enjoyed the
rain we received last week and
the cooler temperatures. A few
mornings last week felt almost
like fall.Next Sunday the Youth
Group will stay for lunch after
church and then play games in
the clubhouse. After everyone is
fed we have been invited to the
Webster Farm to go swimming.
This is the Youth Group’s annual
Back to School Celebration.

Timnson Church of Christ TeaCHinOS frOIII tHe Bible Dwavne^owell
Last week we discussed the
day of the Lord will come; to-
day let us look at what the Bible,
the word of God, says of that
day.
First, letit be understood
there are no contradiction in the
Bible. Some teach that at what
the bible teaches about Christ
kingdom on earth and reign a
thousand years. Let us look at
what the Bible teaches about
Christ kingdom and his return
for it.Christ promised to build
His church, (kingdom). Matt.
16:15-18 “He saith unto them,
But whom say ye that I am? And
Simon Peter answered and said,
Thou art the Christ, the son of
The living God. And Jesus an-
swered and said unto him,
Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-
jona: for flesh and blood hath not
revealed it unto thee, but my Fa-
ther which is in heaven. And I
say unto thee, That thou art Pe-
ter, and upon this rock I will
build my church; and the gates
of hell shall not prevail against
it.” Christ’s kingdome was es-
tablished on Pentecost. After
Peter’s address to those present
at Pentecost; Acts 2:14-36 he
was ask: Acts 2:37-41 “Now
when they heard this, they were
pricked in their heart, and said
unto Peter and to the rest of the
apostles, Men and brethren,
what shall we do? Then Peter
said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the re-
mission of sins, and ye shall re-
ceive the gift of teh Holy Ghost.
For the promise is unto you, and
to your children, and to all that
are afar off, even as many as the
Lord our God shall call. And
with many other words did he
testify and exhort, saying, Save
yourselves from this untoward
generation. Then they that
gladly received his word were
baptized: and that same day
there were added unto them
about three thousand souls.”
Thus Christ’s kingdom was es-
tablished.
Christ tells of his return:
Matt. 25:31-34 “When the Son
man shall come in his glory, and
all the holy angels with him, then
shall he sit upon the throne of
his glory: And before him shall
be gathered all nations: and he
shall separate them one from an-
other, as a shepherd divideth his
sheep from the goats: And he
shall set the sheep on his right
hand, but the goats on the left.
Then shall the King say unto
them on his right, Come, ye
blessed of my Father, inherit the
kingdom prepared for you from
the foundation of the world.”
Paul writes to the
Thessalonians that had ex-
pressed fear for those already
dead; 1 Thess. 4:13-18 “But I
would not have you to be igno-
rant, brethren, concerning them
which are asleep, that ye sorrow
not, even as others which have
no hope. For if we believe that
Jesus died and rose again, even
so them also which sleep in jesus
will God bring with him. For
this we say unto you by the word
of the Lord, that we which are
alive and remain unto the com-
ing of the Lord shall not prevent
them which are asleep. For the
Lord himself shall descend from
heaven with a shout, with the
voice of the archangel, and with
the trump of God; and the dead
in Christ shall rise first: Then we
which are alive and remain shall
be caught up together with them
in the clouds, to meet the Lord
in the air: and so shall we ever
be with the Lord. Wherefore
comfort one another with these
words.”
The day of the Lord will
come: 1 Thess. 5:1-2 “But of the
times and the seasons, brethren,
ye have no need that I write unto
you. For yourselves know per-
fectly that the day of the Lord
so cometh as a thief in the
night.”
This led some of the breth-
ren to entertain doubts as to
whether or not they should sup-
port him in training as a
preacher. I know these brethren
personally and have no doubt
they were sincere in their efforts
to do only what was right in
God’s sight. Later I was tele-
phoned and asked my opinion
concerning this matter. The
question I posed was this: “Did
the brother teach the truth?” All
who heard the lesson unani-
mously agreed that he did. Then
by all means, I pleaded, rejoice
when the truth is taught while
extending Christian liberty in
matters of judgment. Teaching
the truth is obligatory. What
translation one does it from is
optional, a matter of personal
liberty we should be willing to
extend to all.
The Book of Revelations
Timpson Missionary Baptist Church_By Sammy J. Eldredge, Min.
THE BOOK OF REVELATION, SERMON #20, PART
TWO: (REV. 20:7-15) “THE GREAT WHITE THRONE
JUDGMENT” INTRO: THE BIBLE TEACHES US THAT
JUSTICE WILL FINALLY PREVAIL.
A. IT IS A TERRIBLE THING THAT PEOPLE
IGNORANTALLY GO TO THIS END, BECAUSE OF
STUBBORNESS.
B. BUT THE END IS REVEALED HERE.
I. THE THOUSAND YEARS WERE EXPIRED, AND SA-
TAN IS LOOSE FOR THREE MONTHS IN A WORLD
WHICH HAS KNOWN, “ONE THOUSAND YEARS OF
PEACE AND PROSPERITY.”
A. THESE PEOPLE HAVE SEEN WHAT IT WAS
LIKE TO LIVE IN A WORLD WITH NNO WAR.
B. SATAN IS BOUND, SO THERE IS NO TEMPTA-
TION.
C. AND YET WHEN HE IS LOOSE AGAIN, MUL-
TITUDES WILL FOLLOW HIM IN REBELLION.
D. IT IS LIKE THE ANGEL WHO FOLLOWED
HIM IN THE BEGINNING.
1). They will even surround the “Holy City, with in-
tention of overthrowing Christ.” 2). But they will be destroyed,
and Satan will be taken and cast into the lake of fire.
II. THEN WILL TAKE PLACE THE FINAL JUDGMENT
FOR ALL WHO HAVE EVER LIVED AND REFUSED TO
ACCEPT GOD’S SALVATION
A. THE DEAD OF ALL AGES, WHO DIED WITH-
OUT CHRIST SHALL BE CALLED FORTH.
1). The sea will give up the dead in it. 2). Death, and
hell will give up the dead in them. 3). All those from anywhere
they might have been when they died, will be called before the
throne.
B. THE BOOKS WILL BE OPENED.
1). The Bible was given as a means for fallen
man to know God’s salvation plan. 2). They would not read
and believe it in this life time.3). But they will hear it read at
the judgment
C. AN ANOTHER BOOK WAS OPENED, WHICH
IS THE BOOK OF LIFE.
1). Every man who was ever born had a place re-
served in this book. 2). But in the fall we lost our right to our
place.3). Jesus died to give us the chance to regain that place.
4). But these have refused that offer.
D. AND SO EVERYONE, (ALL OF THESE),
WHOSE NAME WAS NOT FOUND WRITTEN IN THE
BOOK OF LIFE, WAS CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE.
E. THIS IS THE SECOND DEATH.
1). It is said, those who were born once, must die
twice.” 2). Those who were born twice, only die once. 3). Jesus
told Nicodemus, “You must be born again to see the kingdom
of heaven.”His is the right invitation.
ARE YOU SAVED? HAVE YOU TRUSTED JESUS’
PROMISE AND CALLED ON HIS NAME? IF NOT, WHY
NOT NOW?
