Hazel Louise “Polly” Rankin
Hazel Louise “Polly” Rankin was born on March
17,1930 to Marshall and Josephine Berthune Rankin.
Polly grew up in Rankin and attended school in
Rankin and Ennis.
She left this world for a better place in Heaven on
January 4, 2013.
As a young child, Polly attended the Rankin Bap-
tist Church and became member at a young age.
Polly worked for Ennis Business
Forms for many years and also served
as a caregiver for a period of time.
Polly is survived by her daughter
and son-in-law, Deborah and Lance
Watson of Byrd, Texas; grandchildren:
Jeremy Knight and wife, Cathryn,
Meagan Knight Burkhart and hus-
band, Haustin, Elizabeth Watson and
Colten Watson; two brothers: Joe and Johnny Rankin,
one sister, Jerry Rankin Griesenbeck and several
nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marshall
and Josephine Rankin, two brothers, Fred and Bill
Rankin and one sister, Frances Hoyle.
Polly lived life to the fullest and dearly loved her
daughter, Debbie, her son-in-aw, Lance and loved and
was so proud of her grandchildren.
Polly will be missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Fri-
day, January 11, 2013 in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of
Ennis.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday,
January 11, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortu-
ary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. Grady Cashion offici-
ating. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Dover,
Sammy Colvin, James Colvin, Mike Rankin, David
Rankin, Randy Rankin, Danny Rankin and Steve
Rankin.

Virginia Rios
Virginia Rios, 88, passed away in Ennis on Sunday,
January 6, 2013.
Virginia was born in Forreston, Texas on Septem-
ber 13,1924 to Jose and Maria (Galban)
Alvarado. She grew up in Forreston
and in the Ellis County area. She at-
tended school in Rankin, Texas. On
February 21, 1944 she married Albert
Rios and they made their home in For-
reston and then to Rankin.
She was a member of the St. John
Nepomucene Catholic Church. She en-
joyed crocheting.
She is survived by sons: Albert Rios, Jr. and his
wife, Delfina of Bardwell, John Rios and his wife,
Paula of Mesquite and Billy Rios and his wife, Char-
lotte of Bardwell; daughters: Angelita Sherrill of
Bardwell, Della and her husband, Todd Blain of Red
Oak and Jessica Voelkel of Bardwell; seven grand-
children: one great-grandson: one brother, Steve Al-
varado of New York City and one sister, Ester Leyva
of Red Oak.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert
Rios in 1991, her parents two sisters and three broth-
ers.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 11, 2013 from
6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel
of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian
Burial will take place on Saturday, January 12, 2013
at 10 a.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic
Church of Ennis with Father Antonio Ormaza as cel-
ebrant. Interment will follow in the Italy Cemetery
under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Rosie Ann Kriska
Rosie Ann Kriska, 91, passed away on Tuesday, Jan-
uary 8, 2013.
Rosie was born in Telico, Texas April 3,1921 to par-
ents Vincent and Frances (Parolek) Vitovsky She was
reared in Telico and attended Telico schools. She mar-
ried Edward Kriska in November of 1939 and they
made their home in Ennis.
Rosie was a seamstress by trade, working for
Storey Manufacturing and Royal Park
for more than thirty years. She enjoyed
sewing, especially the art of quilting,
gardening, cooking and baking.
She was a member of St. John Nepo-
mucene Catholic Church and the
KJZT.
Rosie is survived by one son, Eddie
Kriska, and his wife Gayle; two daugh-
ters: Betty, and her husband, Adolph Janecka and
Denise, and her husband Danny Keeney; one sister,
Agnes Zabojnik; seven grandchildren; six great-
grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; numerous
nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death
by her husband, parents and several brothers and sis-
ters.
Pallbearers will be: Jeremy Kriska, Tony Vitovsky,
Ryan Castillo, Derek Tieken, William Vitovsky, and
Stephen Janecka
Visitation will be held at the J. E. Keever Mortuary
in Ennis, Texas on Thursday, January 10,2013 from 6
p.m. to 8 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. in the
Keever Chapel. Mass for the Christian Burial will be
celebrated Friday, January 11, 2013 at 2 p.m. at St.
John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Ennis. Inter-
ment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direc-
tion of J. E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Around Town
Registration under way for soccer
Spring 2013 registration for the Ennis Soccer As-
sociation is underway from now until Feb. 4. The
spring season begins March 2. Coaches will contact
players after Feb. 18 with practice and game sched-
ules.
Registration forms are available at Sports Con-
nection located at 218 W. Ennis Ave. The completed
form must be mailed to PO. Box 1192, Ennis, TX 75120
or returned to Sports Connection, along with all fees
and copies of players’ birth certificates.
The fee is $70 for the first child of same parent or
guardian, and $65 for each additional child.

Parkway bridge closed for work
The Ennis Parkway bridge over U.S. 287 is closed
due to construction.
The closure is part of the years-long project to up-
grade the portion of the U.S. 287 Bypass in Ennis
stretching from the intersection with State Highway
34 at Lake Bardwell Drive to the bypass intersection
with U.S. 287 to the north, a distance of about 3.2
miles.
Masons slate blood drive
Ennis Masonic Lodge No. 369, in cooperation with
Carter BloodCare, is sponsoring a blood drive from 9
a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at Walmart in
Ennis.
All blood donated will go to help the Scottish Rite
Hospital For Children.
One unit of blood could be used to help to three
children at the hospital. The lodge in advance thanks
any members of the community who step up to do-
nate.
Knights set up contest
The Knights of Columbus will hold a free-throw
contest from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13 at the St.
John’s gym. There is no cost to participate. Registra-
tion will be available at the event.
Christian women’s group to meet
Christian Women’s Connection of Ellis County
will host their monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1
p.m. Jan. 16. The speaker will be Linda Jacobsen. She
will tell us a story of a woman living too long in
today’s society. Feature of the month is Rhonnie
Tompkins, who will be talking about various types of
lace. Meeting will be at the Waxahachie Country Club
located at 1920 W Business 287 at 1-35 East (Exit 401B)
in Waxahachie. The cost of the luncheon all-inclusive
is $13. Make reservations by Sunday, Jan. 13 so that
an accurate count for food preparations can be made.

Movie Night on tap
Movie Night is set for Jan. 18 at the Sokol Activity
Center located at 2622 E Hwy 34 just east of Ennis.
Join the group Friday night in the Sokol Clubroom
for the featured film Czech Dream, a documentary
comedy of two film students who used a grant to pro-
mote the grand opening of a fictitious new super-
market.
The resulting scandal illuminates the waking
nightmare of consumerism in a country still adjust-
ing to the strengths and pitfalls of the concept (not
rated — 2004 film — language: Czech w/ English sub-
titles). Czech music videos and social following the

Relay For Life sets meeting
The Ennis Relay For Life’s organizational effort
starts with the first formal meeting of the season at
6 p.m. Jan. 22 at Tabernacle Baptist Church. This
year’s Relay For Life is scheduled at 6 p.m. Friday,
May 17 at the Texas Motorplex.

Sunbcamers gathering Feb. 5
The Southern Pacific Sunbeam Club meeting date
for January fell on New Year’s Day, a day for napping
and watching sports, so the next meeting will be
Tuesday, Feb. 5, and will begin the club’s 21st year.
The whistle will blow at IHOP at 11:30 a.m. for rail-
roaders who are active or retired, their families, their

Annual music festival approaches
The 7th annual Ennis Czech Music Festival will take
place from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Feb. 9,2013, at the Sokol
Activity Center at 2622 E. Hwy 34 outside Ennis. Listen
and dance to the music of six polka bands:
• 11 a.m. — The Moravians
• 1 p.m. — The Ennis Czech Boys
• 3 p.m. — Jak Se Do
• 5 p.m. — The Czech Harvesters
• 7 p.m. — The Jodie Mikula Orchestra
• 9 p.m. — Czech and Then Some.
Admission is $7, ages 14 and under are free.
Kitchen will be open, as will the cash bar, and a raffle
with prizes is planned. No reservations, dress is ca-
sual. Czech costumes are encouraged.
AA group meets weekly
