Neophytes in Code, Theory
Are you a ham at heart?
Or would you like to be one ?
All you have to do is sign up for CRA’s new classes in
radio code and theory that will start two weeks from to-
night at the CRA center.

In Rehearsal; Opens April 1
Much rehearsing is keeping the lights on late at night
at the CRA Playhouse where cast members of “You Can’t
Take It With You” are working on their next production.
Directed by Stan Brown, CRA drama commissioner, the
three-act comedy was written by Moss Hart and George
Then, under the able instruc-
tion of John S. Lewis, you will
be exposed to all the rudiments
of code and theory.
After a certain length of time
and study, you will take the Fed-
eral Communication Commission
examination and—providing you
pass—you are a ham.
Classes are scheduled to start
at 7 p.m., March 24 at the CRA
center.
Lewis has been a licensed ama-
teur since 1925 and has held the

for Marie Orrick. George Lock-
call W5TS for the 29 year period.
He has conducted numerous noon
time code classes and is credited
with influencing many Convair
employees to share his hobby.
At present he is active on single
side band, an advanced method
of voice communication.

will be taken in the CRA office.

“Bride” by Capt. V. M. Davis
took first place. Dick Wolanski’s
“Dawn Over Dallas” took second.
“Autumn Landscape” by Herb
Reismann took third place honors
and Davis’ “Reflections” brought
him in at fourth place.
Judges for the contest were
Bob Jones and Lee Angel. Both
are local photographers.
Daingerfield Skaters
Try It on Rollers—
A group of Convair Dainger-
field employees tried their skill
on roller skates recently and
had a great time doing it.
They were employees of the
Daingerfield Division photo lab
and members of their families.
Approximately 21 persons at-
tended the get-together.
The skating party was held
at Linden, Texas. L. A. Yaggi
is photography supervisor at
the Daingerfield Division.
Bridge Tourney
Set for April 2
CRA’s annual bridge tourney
will be held April 2 and 4 at the
CRA center, Wendell Eldred, CRA
bridge commissioner, announced
this week.
The Friday night session start-
ing at 8 p.m. will be limited to
Convair FW employees and mem-
bers of their immediate families.
The Sunday session, at 2 p.m.
and 8 p.m., will be a CRA-spon-
sored event open to the public.
Eldred said a buffet dinner will
be served after the Friday tour-
nament and refreshments will be
available during the evening.
On Sunday, dinner will be
served between the afternoon and
evening sessions.
Prizes will be awarded both
nights. Entry fee is $1 per per-
son.
S. Kaufman, writers of hit plays
for many years.
In the role of Penny, aspiring
playwright, is Ruth Brown. Essie,
her ballet-practicing daughter, is
played by Marsha Hicklin. Alice,
the young working girl, is played
by Paula Halsey.
Grandpa Vanderhoff, an indi-
vidualist of the first order, is
Ben Johnson. Tony Kirby, ro-
mantic interest of Alice’s, is Roy
Baadsgaard. Fireworks entrepre-
neurs are Paul, played by A1
Baker, and Mr. DePinna, played
by Andy Clement.
Other cast members are Rheba,
Rose Nelson; Ed, George Craig;
Donald, J. D. Goodman; Hender-
son, Howard Bartholomew; Kolin-
kov, Art Gilligan; Gay, Eloise
Kelly; Mr. Kirby, Dave Halsey;
and Mrs. Kirby, Sue Kidd.
Technical director is John Hol-
land and Martha Kidd is in charge
of properties. Lighting and sound
will be handled by Harry Weimer
and Chet Rothacker is stage man-
ager.
The play centers around a fam-
ily of individualists who have
their own idea of living and seem
to enjoy it. The living room of
their home harbors everything
from snakes to printing presses.
There are fireworks and 11 un-
furnished plays.
The plot revolves around
Grandpa, who could have been a
rich man. One day he asked him-

Will Meet March 27
“Strategic Air Power—Yester-
day and Today” is the topic of a
talk to be given by Maj. Gen.
John B. Montgomery, command-
ing general of the Eighth Air
Force, before the Management
Club.
The meeting will be held at
12:30 p.m. March 27 at the Casino.
According to A. E. Northcott,
Convair Management Club pro-
gram director, Montgomery will
be introduced by August C. Eisen-
wein, division manager.
A barbecue lunch will be served
and entertainment is planned for
the afternoon meeting.
CRA Seeks Return of
Album for Practicing
Bob Raines, CRA radio commis-
sioner, pleaded for the return of
the CRA’s Radio Code Practice
Record Album to the CRA office.
He said there had been many
requests for the records, which
are now over due.

Lecture Set on
Color Shooting
Camera fans who want to im-
prove their color photography
will have a chance to get some
top-notch information at the
March 15 meeting of the CRA
camera activity.
Slides and tape-recorded com-
mentary will be presented at this
meeting. Author of the talk is
Bernard G. Silberstein, exhibitor,
salon judge, and author of photo-
graphic articles. He is well
known for his color work in Holi-
day, National Geographic, Time
and other national magazines.
His lecture will deal with hues,
color contrasts, complementary
colors, etc.
According to Stan Orrick, CRA
camera commissioner, the talk
will be technical but of much
help to the photographer anxious
to improve his color photography
technique.
Oi’rick invited all Convair em-
ployees or members of their fam-
ilies who are interested in photo-
graphy to join the group meeting
at the CRA center.

CRA Stamp Hobbyists
To Elect Officers
CRA stamp activity members
will elect new officers at their
March 16 meeting, according to
J. D. White, CRA stamp and coin
commissioner.
A display of a member’s col-
lection will also be on the pro-
gram.
White requested that all lots
for the April 6 meeting be turned
in at this March 16 meeting.
Coin activity members will meet
on the same night at the CRA
center.
Colored slides on U. S. coins
featuring half cent through 20
cent pieces will be shown.
White urged all interested per-
sons to attend either meeting.
