Local young,women to compete for sweetheart title
LIVINGSTON — Six young
women from area high schools will
compete Thursday evening for the
title of Trinity-Neches Livestock
Show Sweetheart.
The contest will be held at 6:30
p.m., prior to the rodeo, which

Elissa Lawless, Polk County 4-H;
Misty Marie Moore, Livingston
FFA; and Terri Vaughn. Corrigan-
Camdcri FFA.
The 1991-92 Trinity-Neches
Sweetheart is Kelly Oliver. Kelly,
the 15-year-old daughter of
Lawrence and Debbie Oliver, is a
sophomore at Big Sandy High
School. Kcll\ is active in FFA and
4-H and is the Big Sandy FFA
Chapter reporter. She is also a Sam
Houston District FFA officer.
Kelly has been in 4-H for eight
years. She is the Big Sandy 4-H
president and the Polk County 4-H
Council vice president. Kelly has
attended numerous 4-H and FFA
leadership training camps. She has
been on the 4-H Rodeo Team for
the past seven years and has com-
peted at the State 4-H Rodeo. Kel-
ly’s highest honor was being
named the 1901 4-H Gold Star win-
ner.

Regional UIL Impromptu Speaking
Contest. She has beenc nominated
for the Miss Texas Scholarship
Pageant. For several summers, she
has played in the Livingston Girls'
Softball programs and had the1
honor of playing on the Girls’ All-
Star Team and competing in the
State Tournament. Kelly has been a
member ijf the Fellowship of Chris-
tian Athletes for two years.
This year at the Trinity-Neches
Livestock Show, Kelly is showing
a market lamb, market swine and
broilers. Kelly has won numerous
awards in showing and many show-
manship titles.
She is an active member of the
Livingston Church of Christ.
In her spare time, Kelly enjoys
rodeoing, playing high school vol-
leyball and basketball, showing
animals, playing softball and meet-
ing new friends.
Kelly’s future plans are to attend
Texas A&M University and pursue
a career in agribusiness, specializ-
ing in public relations.
Following is a little about this
year’s contestants;
Cama Allen
Big Sandy FFA
Cama is the 18-year-old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Allen and is
a senior at Big Sandy High School.
Cama has participated in the Big
Sandy FFA Chapter for the past
four years. Her freshman year, she
was named Big Sandy FFA Star
Greenhand, participated on the
Grecnhand Quiz Team and was the
Greenhand Creed Speaker.
This past year, Cama competed
on the Big Sandy FFA Farm Radio
Skills Team. This year she is the
Big Sandy FFA treasurer. For the
past four years, Cama has been on
the Big Sandy Livestock Judging
Team. She has won numerous high
individual awards.
Outside of the FFA, Cama has
competed in the One-Act UIL Play
and UIL Number Sense and has
been on the honor roll.
Cama enjoys showing a raising
market steers, horseback riding and
meeting new friends.
After high school graduation,
Cama plans to attend Sam Houston
State University and major in busi-
ness management.
Jenny Davis
Leggett FFA
The 1991-92 Leggett FFA
sweetheart is Jenny Davis. Jenny, a
16-ycar-oId junior at Leggett High
School, is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Mike Davis of Leggett.
As a member of FFA, Jenny has
served as chapter reporter as a
freshman and sophomore, and is
currently chapter vice president.
Jenny has been a member of the
livestock and horse judging teams.
Her ag projects have included pigs
and shorthorn heifers, which she
showed at the Trinity-Neches Show
and the Houston Livestock Show.
Jenny has been very active in
University Intcrscholastic League
academics since the second grade.
In high school, she has been a
membef~©f the One-Act Play ca9l
for the last three years. As a fresh-
man she was awarded an All-Star
Cast medal at zone competition.
Last year she received All-Star
Cast medals at zone and district
competition. She has participated in
UIL journalism two years, winning
in the editorial writing division as a
freshman. Finally, last year, Jenny
competed in the State UIL
Academic Meet in Austin at die
University of Texas in Poetry Inter-
pretation.
Jenny has served on the Leggett
Piratecr and Pirate Pride staff in
1989-90 and 1991-92. In 1990, she
served as finance manager for the
yearbook, raising over $3,700 for
the annual staff. In 1992, Jenny is
serving as editor of the 1992
Piratecr. She has also served on the
newsletter staff and as a photog-
rapher for the staff.
Jenny was a member of the Var-
sity Cheerleaders for two years and

was head cheerleader as a fresh-
man. She served as Student Council
secretary in 1990, as well as bring a
member of the Speech and Drama
Club, Spanish Club, Quill and
Scroll amfra library aide.
Jenny plans to attend Texas
A&M University where she will
major in physical therapy,
specializing in adolescent han-
dicaps and sports injuries.
Courtney Klawinski
New Waverly FFA
Courtney Klawinski, represent-
ing New Waverly'FFA, is the 15-
year-old daughter of Raymond and
Vergie Klawinski and is a freshman
at New Waverly High School.
Courtney is the New Waverly
FFA Greenhand secretary. She also
competed last fall as the New
Waverly FFA Greenhand Creed
Speaker at the District Leadership
Conference, placing fourth.
Courtney is presently the 1992 Sam
Houston District FFA Greenhand
Sweetheart.
Courtney is freshman class
measurer and was selected as the
freshman class Homecoming
duchess. She is a member of the
Beta Club, Student Council, Stu-
dent Advisory Board, a varsity
cheerleader, and is a member of the
Walker County 4-H Council and St.
Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Courtney enjoys raising maaket
lambs, dancing, tennis, playing the
piano and being with friends.
She plans to attend college after
graduation and major in com-
munications.

Elissa Lawless, Polk County 4-H
sweetheart, is the daughter of

Officer 3rd Class Ronny W.
McAfee, son of Wanda F. Whit-
tington of Livingston, recently
reported for duty aboard the aircraft
carrier USS Nimitz, homeported in
Bremerton, WA.
He joined the Navy in December
1986.

The Louisiana-Pacific plant in
Corrigan has been shut down for
some time, but that didn’t stop
burglars Feb. 18. A Husky
chainsaw and a Honda generator
with a total value of $1,300 were
reported missing from the main-
tenance shop by a plant
employee.
Burglars gained entry by tak-
ing screws from the sheet metal
door.
Polk County Crime Stoppers

Charles and Cheryl Lawless of Big
Sandy and is a sixth grade student
at Big Sandy Junior High. She has
competed in 4-H horse shows and
Polk County Youth Rodeos and
Playdays since June of 1986, win-
ning many horsemanship ribbons.
She has also competed in Wood-
ville, winning an All-Around
buckle in 1988.
Other 4-H activities include par-
ticipation in county and district
food shows, winning first place in
district in 1991 and grand cham-
pion in baking at the Jefferson
County 4-H Fair. Also in 1991, she
won third in Sub-Novice
Obedience at the State 4-H Dog
Show in Wichita Falls and grand
champion at the Jefferson County
Fair with an obedience and trick
routine.
Elissa also showed the grand
champion boar in 1989 at the
Trinity-Neches Show. In 1990-91
she showed rabbits and won 10th
with Meat Pen and third with
California Doe.
Elissa is an honor student, par-
ticipating in UIL and winning rib-
bons in Storytelling and Picture
Memory.
She is a member of Midway
Community Church and worked in
the Missionettes Girls’ Group.
Misty Marie Moore
Livingston FFA
Misty Marie Moore is a member
of the Livingston FFA Chapter at
Livingston High School.
She has been involved with
horses and rodeoing for nine years.
She is a member of the Texas High
School Rodeo Association, where
she is currently winning the barrel
racing competition. Misty is a
member of the Texas Professional
Rodeo Association, Central Rodeo
Association, American Quarter
Horse Association and the Texas
Barrel Racing Association, where
she is winning the Rookie of the
Year title and is currently sitting
second in the standings for the
year.
Misty is a member of the
Daughters of the Republic of Texas
and the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes.
Misty has been a Freshman Class
Beauty, Junior Class Beauty,
Senior Class Beauty and Senior
Homecoming Duchess. She has
received an Agriculture - Award,
Speech Award, Horse Proficiency
Award, Presidential Physical Fit-
ness Award, and the title of Best
Supporting Actress. She was
recently selected as FFA
Sweetheart of the Sam Houston
DistricL
Misty is on the A Honor Roll at
Livingston High School and
received Academic Recognition in
mathematics in the TAAS Exit
Level Test. In 1991, she was the
Polk County All-Around Champion
at the Polk County Youth Rddfco,
where she was also the Barrel Rac-
ing Champion.
Misty is currently serving as
president of Lions for Christ at her
school and attends Lakeway Baptist
Church.
Terri Vaughn
Corrigan-Camden FFA
Terri Vaughn, representing
Corrigan-Camden FFA, is the 17-
year-old daughter of Kathy Owens
and David Vaughn.
Terri has served as FFA vice
president, Student Council repre-
sentative, class officer, Student of
the Month, Best Dressed and has
been FFA reporter for two years.
She has been involved with the
newspaper and yearbook staff,'
band for two years, twirler for two
years, KYSSED, Who’s Who
Among American High School Stu-
dents, Chapter Conducting Team,
and Land Judging Team for two
years. She has also won first divi
sion Trio and first place District
UIL Editorial Writing.
Terri’s hobbies include dancing,
hotseback riding, reading, shop-
ping, traveling, playing softball,
and spending time with friends and
family.
