MERCHANDISE RECOVERED - Ser-
geant John Sanders, Sheriff Darrell Longino
and Detective Ray Stubbs are shown with
merchandise recently recovered in
pawnshops in Huntsville and Pasadena. The
items were stolen from residences in Cay on
Park, Texas Acres, FM 356 North and
Sportsman’s Retreat between the latter part

of December and mid-February. One
juvenile was arrested and referred to the
juvenile authorities. In addition, Thomas
Milton Shoemaker, 20, of Onalaska, was ar-
rested and charged with two counts of
burglary of a habitation. He remains in the
Polk County Jail under a $25,000 bond.
More arrests are pending.
Armed robbers take cash
LIVINGSTON - An undis-
closed amount of cash was taken
when a clerk was robbed at gun-
point at 3:20 a.m. Feb. 12 at
Timewise Food Store in the 1600
block of West Church.
According to Chief Dennis Clif-
ton, three black males left in a late-
model, two-door Ford Mustang that
was faded red with black trim.
Recent arrests by the Livingston
Police Department include:
•Deborah Sue Limmer Phillips,
33, of Livingston, who was charged
with DWI and possession of
marijuana following a Feb. 10 inci-
dent in the intersection of West and
North Houston.
•Timothy Harmon Fults, 31, of
Livingston, who was picked up on
an outstanding warrant and charged
with Class A theft.
•Nathaniel Holloman, 32, of
Livingston, who was charged with
robbery following a Feb. 12 inci-
dent in the 1200 block of West
Church.
•Ruby Dean Owens, 27, of
Livingston, who was charged with
Class B theft following a Feb. 12
incident in the 100 block of South
Washington.

in getting acquainted with the can-
didates for sheriff are invited to an
open house the City of Onalaska is
hosting at 7 p.m. Feb. 25 in the
City Hall.

by Clarke.
•Disorderly conduct on North
Houston in which a man was sitting
on a front porch exposing himself,
reported Feb. 14 at 2:01 p.m., in-
vestigated by Clarke.
•Criminal mischief on Beatty
Street in which the complainant ad-
vised she saw several subjects
around a storage building and then
saw the door open, reported Feb. 14
at 10:50 p.m., investigated by Of-
ficer Bobby Williamson and
Reserve Officer Joe Kirkpatrick.
Reporting for the youth develop-
ment committee, Ellis said she has
been working as a liaison with the
anti-drug group at Livingston High
School - KYSSED, or Knowledge-
able Youth Stand Strong Eliminat-
ing Drugs.
She said the group is a spin-off
of STAND, Students Taking Ac-
tion Not Drugs and was formed
with assistance from the KYSSED
chapter in Angelina County. Ellis
said the organization has been very
successful with the younger high
school students. She said 69 stu-
dents have tested drug-free and that
more have filled out their applica-
tions and are waiting to be tested.
Random drug testing is conducted
by the probation department, thus
the students have to "stay clean."
Ellis said activities are being
planned monthly for the group and
that they are hoping to expand into
the other school districts within the
next year.
Reporting for the legislative
committee, Dennis Teal said the
committee will soon be mailing
cards to the members asking to list
any trade associations they are af-
filiated with. Teal said the informa-
tion will be a valuable tool and will
allow the committee to better com-
municate its feelings to the legis-
lators in Austin. He added that the
committee is planning to read every
piece of legislation during the next
regular session.
In addition. Governor Ann
Richards has asked Richard Gilbert
and North Bardell to serve on
STEP -- State of Texas Energy
Policy - under State Railroad
Commissioner Lena Guerrero.
Reporting for the Pine Cone Fes-
tival committee, Scott Simpson
said plans are coming along for the
festival which is scheduled May 8-
10 at Pedigo Park. Booth sales are
underway and will continue
through March 1 for Polk County
residents. After March 1 sales will
be opened to those from outside the

booths have been designated.
Reporting for the tourism com-
mittee, Joey Pedigo reported that
the tourism council had a booth set
up at the Houston Boat Show for
nearly two weeks and passed out
lots of literature about Polk County
and Lake Livingston.
In new business, the board ap-
pointed Danny Ellis to serve as a
director of the tourism council,
with Joey Pedigo and Leonard
Davis serving as alternates.
President Roger Wiegreffe
reminded everyone that Polk Coun-
ty night at the Houston Livestock
Show and Rodeo is Feb. 28 and en-
couraged everyone to attend if pos-
sible.

the board , voted to discontinue
coverage. ;
Marvin Hicks reported that ,
Physical Tjierapy Works will host
business after hours from 5-7:30
p.m. on Feb. 27 and that First Na-
tional Bank will host it on March
10.
In closing, the board gave a
round of applause to Outgoing
President Roger Wiegreffe and
thanked him for his tireless efforts
over the last year. Tuesday was
Wiegreffe’s last board of directors’
meeting as president.
Other business included approval
of the minutes and financial
reports.
Board to call election
GOODRICH - The Board of
Trustees of the Goodrich Independ-
ent School District will consider
calling a trustee election for May 2
at its regular meeting at 7 p.m.
Thursday.
Following an executive session,
the board will consider the ad-
ministrators’ contracts, the contract
of a teacher and the resignation of a
teacher.
Other toms to be under con-
sideration by the board include the
approval to sell tax delinquent
properties, board members’ training
hours and truck bids.
Superintendent David Malone
will report on maintenance and
repairs.
Other items on the agenda in-
clude approval of the minutes and
payment of bills.
