BEECHAM’S
PULS
There .is one writer today in
America who is said, according
tq, some' sociologist, to have done
more to analyse and clearly pre-
sent the problems of women—
sisters and mothers—than any
other writer- That is Kathleen
Norris, favorite of a steady fan
class of millions of readers ev-
erywhere in the English speak-
ing world, and on the Continent
where her works are widely
traveled.
Her latest novel to be filmed
“Butterfly,” has been filmed as
a Universal-Jewel all star pro-
duction directed for the screen
by Clarence Brown, will be
shown at the Martin Theatre
tonight and tomorroiv night.
Although it is a story of two
sisters with a searching study
of their souls, it has all the
drama and “punch” necessary to
be attractive to men.
There are four leading char-
acters, two sisters, a wealthy
manufacturer and a famous vio-
linist. These roles are played
by Ruth Clifford, of “The Dra-
matic Life of Abraham Lincoln-’
Laura La Plante, Universal's
newest luminary, Kenneth Har-
lan and Norman Kerry.
Author Knows Women’s Sools
Miss Norris in her stories pre-
sents the woman’s thoughts and
emotions with startling clarity.
In “Butterfly” which has been a
best seller in the book stores,
she presents,a picture of a girl
nicknamed “Butterfly” and her
older sister, the latter sacrifi-
cing every personal desire that
the ypunger may be happy and
achieve the success as a violin-
ist which their mother on her
deathbed had prophesied.
The younger sister forgets
that her sister has a heart, and
cuts her out of the man she lov-
es. Then, when she married the
millionaire, the youngster for-
gets her brilliant career, and los-
es herself in the useless butter-
fly life of society.
Repeatedly she l^angs on the
brink of tragedy, but on several
occasions she is saved by her
’husband’s indulgence, and the
untiring dTorts of her forgiving
sister, day she at-
tempts iSf capiuie tlie man her
elder sister loves.

Bridge Party
On Saturday afternoon, Mrs.
I. N. Williams was Hostess for
a very pleasant bridge party,
which was a pretty courtesy to
Mrs. H. Lilienstern of Cincin-
nati and Mrs. J. M. Burford of
Dallas, both of whom are visit-
ing relatives.
Baskets of Spring flowers
added floral charm to the occa-
sion, forming a pretty setting
for the three tables of guests.
The high score prizes were
won by the honor guests, Mrs.
Lilienstern winning the first
prize and Mrs. Burford the sec-
ond.
A most tempting salad course
was served to the honor guests
and Mesdames Hiram Brown, B.
Old, E. S. Lilienstern, Vivian
Fowler, Harford Shaw, D. M.
Witt, S. C. Broadstreet, Jon.
Russell; Misses Lalla Pounders
and Marie Schwab.

Among the very pleasant af-
fairs of the past week was the
