Lana’s Daughter j
Stabs To Death
Mother’s Friend
HOLLYWOOD. Calif. (IT).—I
Lana Turner's pretty 14-year-old
daughter stabbed her mother’s
underworld boyfriend to death
last night.
Cheryl Crane, who is the
daughter of Lana by one of her
four marriages, is being held by
Los Angeles police on suspi-i
cion of murder.
She told investigators she
rammed a kitchen knife into
the stomach of Johnny Stompan- j
ato following a wild argument
at the actress*’ swank Hollywood
home.
Cheryl says Stompanato had j
threatened to disfigure her m o-j
thor if she broke off a romance j
with him. Lana says she h a d j
been trying to call it quits with;
the mobster since Christmas.
Hollywood Lawyer Jerry
Geisler says the stabbing can be
considered “justifiable homi-
cide.”
Cheryl said after she was
booked on suspicion of murder
this morning: “I wish 1 were
like my mother. At least she is
able to cry. I can’t.”

Drug Effective
Against Cancer
Being Used Now
Bv UNITED PRESS
The University of Wisconsin

nitely effective against advanced
eases of cancer
The drug called 5 Flnurourcil
was developed by Dr Charles
Hmdelberger It now is being
given to patients at Wisconsin
Memorial Hospital
\ laboratory spokesman at
the university says the new com*
pound is as close as science has
vet come to producing a chemi-
cal that could be successful in
killing cancer cells directly The
spokesman said its only draw*
back is that it must be given in
strong dosages which have a
toxic effect on the patient
However the spokesman said
