US Polio Cases
Lower This Year
WASHINGTON. D. C. (UP).—
The government has come up
with some facts and figures on
polio The Public Health Serv-
ice said there were 74 new cases
of polio during the week ended
June 8 — bringing the overall
total since April to 511.
But thanks to the Salk polio
vaccine, the figures tell a dif-
ferent story this year.
The 74 new cases are less
than half the number reported
in the corresponding week of
1956 The figures since April
are off by 462 cases compared
to the similar period of last
year.
