DA: 'Plea Consistent with Case Evidence'
Graves Accepted Deferred Adjudication Sentence, Fines Last Thursday in '08 Seagraves Murder Case

The District Attorney for the
106th Judicial District offered a
brief explanation over last week's
plea bargain agreement be-
tween his office and a 49-year-
old Seagraves woman who was
charged with a count of murder
for her alleged involvement in the
March 2008 death of her boy-
friend.
Last Thursday, Patricia Graves,
49, of Seagraves accepted a plea
agreement in a 2008 Gaines
County Sheriffs Dept, case involv-
ing the beating death of 54-year-
old Robert "Rocky" Glenn Bryant.

New Superintendent
Takes Over at Loop ISD
LOOP — A ne w head administra-
tor will soon take over the reigns at
Loop ISD, according to a news brief
released by school district officials on
Monday.
Scott Allen has been hired as the
new superintendent for Loop ISD,
and will be replacing interim LISD
Superintendent Byron Shelley.
Allen began work with LISD on
Feb. 3, and is moving to the Loop
community from Whitney, where he
was employed as a principal. Allen
has 20 years of experience in educa-
tion as a teacher and administrator.
He has experience in several West
Texas school districts including:
Ector County, Crane, Floydada,
McCamey and Sanderson.
He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s
degrees from the University of Texas
of the Permian Basin.
Allen and his wife, Dede, are
life-long educators and are looking
forward to serving the Loop school
children and community, according
to the LISD release emailed Mon-
day, together the couple have three
children: Logan, a senior, Carsyn, a
sophomore, and McCrae, who is in
third grade.
In the agreement, Graves re-
ceived a 10 year deferred adjudi-
cated sentence
for her plea
agreement. In
addition to her
deferred sen-
tence, Graves
was also as-
sessed a $2,500
fine, court cost
fees, $300 fee
for court ap-
pointed attorney
fees and 250
hours of com-
munity service,
"The plea
agreement we
offered Ms.
Bryant Graves was
consistent with
the evidence
we have on the
case,” said Mi-
chael Munk,
106th District
Attorney in a
Monday after-
noon telephone
interview with
the Seminole
Sentinel.
Munk reserved to make any
other public comments toward the
case, citing the ongoing status of
Villareal
the legal issue as his reasoning.
Graves, along with 43-year-old
Jose Luis Villarreal, who has a
Hobbs, N.M. listed address, were
both assessed one count of first
degree murder for their alleged
involvement of Bryant's death by
a Gaines County Grand Jury last
summer.
According to a spokeswoman
with the GCSD on Friday of last
week, Graves was released at 6:37
p.m. Thursday evening to the
Gaines County Probation Dept.,
per the sentence agreement.
Bryant, in the early morning
hours of March 25, 2008, was
found severely beaten in a dry fer-
tilizer warehouse just south of the
Seagraves city limits, just southeast
of the intersection of SH 83 and
U.S. Hwy. 62/385. He died sev-
eral hours later at a Lubbock hos-
pital due to injuries sustained in the
incident.
Graves, who was identified as
being Bryant's girlfriend at the time
of his death, was arrested on July
18, 2013 in Mineral Wells on a
warrant by Texas Dept, of Public
Safety law enforcement officials.
Villarreal, who was arrested in
July of last year in connection of
the case, is currently released from
the custody of the Gaines County
Sheriffs Dept, on a $200,000 per-

for February 20th
According to officials with the
Texas AgriLife Extension Service's
Gaines County office, the annual
Sandyland Agricultural Conference
will be held Thursday, Feb. 20 at
the Gaines County Civic Building
located at 402 N. W. 5th Street in
Seminole.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m.
with the program beginning at
8:25 a.m. and concluding at ap-
proximately 3:30 p.m.
This year’s Conference will focus
on Peanut and Cotton Disease
Management Weed Resistance
in Sandy Soils, Herbicide Trial
Results/Weed Resistance Manage-
ment, Nematodes, and Applied
Research Trials and Results.
Other topics include Spray
Nozzle Selection/Drift Minimization,
Insect Pest Management, Pesticide
Applicator License Requirements,
Pesticide Laws & Regulations, and
industry updates.
Program Presenters will include
Dr. Jason Woodward - Plant Pa-
thologist, Dr. Terry Wheeler - Plant
Pathologist, Dr. Wayne Keel-
