City to consider commercial landscaping requirements

from page 1
There is u possibility that SRMPA
may notify the city of a rate de-
crease early next year, Sutton said,
in which case that decrease would
be passed along to customers.
Electric sales represent 48.5 per-
cent of the city’s annual operating
income.
No new or increases in permit or
development fees have been in
eluded in the proposed budget.
There will also be no increases in
recreational fees, library user Ices
or Trade Days vendor fees.
The proposed budget includes
salaries and fringe benefits for two
new positions: a new police patrol
officer and an administrative assis-
tant for the Community Develop-
ment/Code Enforcement Depart-
ment. Under the proposed budget,
three part-time positions have be-
come full-time positions: the Main
Street administrative assistant, the
library aide and the firefighter fire-
station attendant The city has ap-
plied for a grant to fund the lattei
position, but because it is not
known if the grant will be ap-
proved, the grant is not reflected in
the budget
Grants which arc included in the
budget include $120,000 in disastei
recovery funds for Hurricane Rita,
a $2,50(1 library grant and a
$10,000 grant for police depait-
ment equipment.
Sales tax revenue is the largest
revenue source for the city’s gen
eral fund and the proposed budget
projects a 7 percent increase in that
rev enue during the upcoming year
A 17.6 percent increase in hotel
occupancy tax collections is also
projected. That 7 percent tax must,
bv law, be used for tourism promo
non and historical cultural activ i-
ties. The city presently contributes
25 percent (up to an annual maxi-
mum of $30,000) to the
Livingston I’olk County Chamber
of Commacc. 12.5 percent (maxi
mum $5,000) to the I’olk < omitv
I listoi ical ( ommissii ai and I 2 5
percent (maximum S.MMIOO) to the
Livingston Specialty Merchants
Guild.
