Looking Back To... June 4, 1920
From the June 4, 1920, issue of
The Clifton Record:
"On Friday evening, May 28,
1920, the graduating class of the
Clifton Lutheran College gave its
class program, and on Saturday
evening the commencement exer-
cises were given. Rev. J.A. Urness
of Osage, Iowa, delivered the com-
mencement address. The graduates
were Misses Beatrice Hoff, Mabel
Rogstad, Emma Knuat, Marie Rog-
stad, and Mr. Martin Jenson.”
The programs were given out-
doors where a stage had been ar-
ranged so as to give seating room to
everyone. By another year it is
hoped that a new auditorium will be
completed so that everybody may be
accomodated.”

“D.C. Caroway left the first of the
week for Minneapolis where he is
having a new artificial limb fitted,
and it is though^ .that when* he
returns he will be able to wall as
though he had two natural legs.”
“Notice. The young man who took
the blue serge vest out of Allen
Amundson’s buggy at John Dahl’s
singing last Sunday night, May 30,
was unfortunate, being that some
parties saw him take it. He is ad-
vised to return it by parcel post to
Box 7, Norse, Texas, at once, rather
than be reported to the Grand Jury
as a thief.”
“Canuteson-Golden. Mr. Sam
Canuteson, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Hover Canuteson, and Miss Mae
Golden, the only daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. W.K. Golden, both of this
city, were married last Saturday af-
ternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
J.T. Forson, the ceremony being
performed by Mr. Forson who is a
Justice of the Peace. We understand
this was his first couple to join as
man and wife since his reign of
office.”
“The Clifton Light Company is
now ready for the arrival of their
new engines and dynamos which
have been shipped from the factory.
Iva Phiney and his crew of helpers
finished the cement foundation
Tuesday. We understand that
Clifton will have a double unit plant
when the machinery is installed
and will be one of the best plants in
the state.”
“Carl Olsen, a student at A&M
College, is at home this week for a
short visit before leaving for his
summer work.”
“Mrs. Anna Odegaard left on
Tuesday morning for a three weeks
visit with her mother at Minneapo-
lis, Minnesota.”
“Dr. and Mrs. J.C. Carpenter
returned home last Monday night
after e several days visit with his
mother and other relatives in West
Texas.”

“While walking across the floor at
McNeill’s store last week, Miss
Maud Peters slipped and fell on her
left arm breaking the bone. She has
been carrying it in a sling since.
Can’t beat her as she kept on at
Work.”

“Miss Willie Robertson living up
the river a few miles, spent several
days here last week, the guest of
Miss Leota Harris."
“Mrs. Myrtle Schramm of Ring-
gold, Texas, a cousin of Edward
Harris, arrived here Monday after-
noon to visit relatives a few days.
She had been visiting her aunt,
Grandma McFadden of Clifton. She
will spend several days in this
section."
“N.E. Riddle has just installed
three splendid new chairs in his
barber shop which adds greatly to
the appearance of his well equipped
tonsorial parlor."
