Following a motion made by
John Thiele, the board approved
adding additional overlay of as-
phalt and paying the additional
10-percent to Fisher for oversight
of the work to be done by the
Scott Barnett Company. At the
same time, a budget amendment
was approved to pay the addi-
tional funds for the track.
The trustees also approved the
cheerleaders’ handbook, and the
consent agenda.
Supt. White gave the board a
brief overview of the situation
with ad valorem taxes regarding
the Bosque Power Plant, noting
that the value may go up in 2010,
after the additional enhance-
ments are made at the plant.
The board approved setting the
next meeting for Feb. 9.
Following a business session,
the board went into executive
Session. After reopening the
meeting, the board voted unani-
mously to hire Shawn Bell as the
new athletic director and head

Texas Gets $30M From Eli Lilly
AUSTIN, Texas — The
pharmacuetical giant Eli Lilly
must fork over $30 million to the
state of Texas for recovering
Medicaid funds.
The settlement is a part of a
$800 million agreement brokered
by the federal government over
the company’s unlawful marking
of its antipsychotic prescription
drug, Zyprexa.
Eli Lilly pled guilty to a misde-
meanor violation of the federal
Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act
and agreed to also pay a $615
million criminal fine.
The Indiana-based company il-
legally marketed Zyprexa to Med-
icaid-eligible patients such as
children and elderly dementia
sufferers; the drug was FDA ap-
proved for only adult schizophre-
nia and , bipolar disorder.
Moreover, the company failed to
notify customers of the drug’s
side effects such as diabetes. Eli
Lilly also markets insulin for dia-
betes.
In the future, the U S. Depart-
ment of Health and Human Ser-
vices’ Office of Inspector General
will monitor the defendant’s fu-
