Edwards To Fight For
Lake Bosque Project
WACO — State Senator Chet Ed-
wards (D-Waco), Democratic candi-
date for the 11th Congressional
District, will testify before the
Texas Water Commission in sup-
port of the Lake Bosque and Lake
Waco water project. The public
hearing to consider the application
will be held in Austin on July 18.
Commenting on the water project,
Edwards said, “I have met with
Congressman (Marvin) Leath and
discussed at length the project and
am convinced that it is very much
needed. As a State Senator, 1 will
do everything I can to reverse the
staff recommendation that the
project not be built.”
A hearings examiner for the
Texas Water Commission on June
1 recommended that both permits
be denied.
Bosque and McLennan Counties
in cooperation with the Brazos
River Authority has studied the
project for 10 years at a cost of ap-
proximately 13 million. The water
rights application for Lake Bosque
and the application for the enlarge-
ment of Lake Waco were filed and
are being considered together. If ap-
proved, the two projects are to be
operated as a two-reservoir system
In a recent letter to the Texas
Water Commission, Sen. Edwards
urged the Commission to carefully
consider all the facts concerning the
water project ami rule against the
examiner’s recommendation. Ed-
wards also stressed the importance
of the proposed project to the future
water supply for citizens in the two
counties.
Cities in Bosque and McLennan
Counties that have worked with the
BRA include: Clifton, Meridian,
Woodway, Hewitt, Bellmead, Lacy
Lakeview, ami Waco, and the
McLennan County Water Control
and Improvement District No. 2
(Elm Mott).

The prints are currently available through The Bird Cage, the
hospital gift shop; the hospital front office; and Spieler Gallery.
According to Dr. Mark Campbell, special projects committee
member for the modernization campaign, the artist put a lot of
time and effort into researching the depot to make sure the colors
and likeness were historically accurate. He noted that the num-
bered prints will be collectors’ items.

integrity needed to make an out-
