Hague the soothsayer has issued his
Horoscope. 'or October wherein he predicts:
"During this autumn there will be
much plundering at sea. Shipwrecks will
be abundant. Insurers suffer great loss.
The commerce of England and America
droops before the sun rolls into Capricorn
and many bankrupts will occur which were
not expected : many accidents take place
through explosions and falling of buildings
&c. .Death visits stone quarries and coal
mines. Earthquakes and storms do much
mischief in different parts of the world.
The queen of England complains; her
person is in danger her fleets will he un-
fortunate. The president of the. United
States will be greatly excited this fall; his
people suffer through sickness ; death is no
stranger among men in office."
True. The history of the world as
well as the biography of those who have
played a prominent part in its coucerns
teach one great lesson worthy of everlast-
ing remembrance. It assures us that it
matters but little what form of danger may
assail a man if he be true to himself. Po-
verty may lay its chilling hand upon him
and freeze up the tountam ot his origin
hopes disappointment may meet him at
every step affliction may strike down
those who are dearest to his heart; the
breath of slander may attempt to sully his
name and tarnish his reputation still let
him be true to himself let him maintain
a stout heart and clear breast and he will
eventually outride the storm. Let those

tells us an anecdote of a good old Connec-
ticut deacon who was attaching a very
feeble pair of oxen to a very large and
lieavy load of wood. A neighbor asked
him how he expected to get so targe a
load to market with so poor a team. The
good deacon replied that he expected to
have some assistance from Divine Provi-
dence. His neighbor then asked him whe-
ther it would not be as well to dispense
entirely with his oxen and let Divine
Providence draw the whole load.
