strict member'of the Baptist church. He' finally on
being received into the house of a pious widow by
dint or slight of hand pocketed her gold watch and
suddenly disappeared from that part of the country.
Helhen went to eastern Texas to Jacob Blan'.on's
who was another brother-in-law to Obadiah Lapr s.

represented his wife to be dead and said inat ne narj

Texas and it is supposed that he is now in 1 ennes
see or Mississippi lurking -about or probably acting
the part ot a Baptist preacher under a new name.
He nas a good voice and sings well and when he
resided in Bibb he frequently taught singing schools
He was then a member of the Baptist church but
' .never attempted to preach.
He is six fett one inch high has a thin sharp look

of age. "One or his big toes has been broken. It
turns up so as to be plainly seen with a shoe on. If
he should be discovered by any person seeing this let
them address a letter to Obediah Langston of Bibb

This is the same Mark W. Doss who has for
some time past been noticed in the papers of this
country as the murderer of Blanton. and his having
broke jail the second time and his final escape. We
ask Editors to pass him around and if he is in the
United States let him be found and returned to Tex-

Tub Four Aoes or Maibs. A German writer
M.'iG. Sapfir says maids have four ages viz: the
golden from 16 to 21 the" silver age from 21 to 28
the plated from 28 to 35. and the iron age from 35 to
the end. In the golden age every thing is golden
golden locks golden dreams golden hopes golden
thoughts &c The voice sounds like virgin gold
and the 'affections are puro gold. The fact is they
have five.barVof splendid gold No. 16 17 18 19
and 20; but alas but few of them carry them to the
mint of reason to have them coined.
When a girl is once three times seven years the
clitterinir cold is cone. Her early youth the de
jeuner a ie.fov.rcht lit of nature is past; girls of that
age arc no longer Kepi hko guui meumi in uiuruccu
boxes bi.t commence like silver to circulate among
the people. The seven years from 21 to 28 are em
ployed in an incessant war upon the brutes who but
too frequently imitate the example of Frederick the
Great and await the assault behind entrenchments
Girls aro moA interesiine at that age. Instead of
imitating tKe larks in soarinsr so high that but few
nay hear them they take their flight nearer the
earth like swallows in rainy weamer. in.tnai age
they arc the most amiable and have the best opin-
ions of men; of course they are on that account most
easily caged.
The dated use is fiom 28 to 35. Gold and silver
are none and they resort to the various processes ol
gilding silvering and plating. They arc less fiqUanl
and more piqued. They look Upon men with a
considerable mixture ol coqleaipt and hatred. They
become again reserved and prude. If thev have af
fections thev are at best elated : thev mav endure if
of good workmanship; but they have not the value of
either gold or silver.
The iron age is the universal death of sentiment
The thirty-fifth year is the equator of human life
which divides it into the Southern and Northern
hemisphere. On the Northern there is no Paradise
for girls. They now write their farewell letters to
all hopes and wishes. They conlorm to iron neces
sity and resign themselves to the iron tooth of time.
awaiting the day when gold and silver and iron will
have no iound and naught but the soul ever young
and Iresh shall rise from its iron casements.
An appillng shipwreck with great loss of life took
place at Robin Hood Bay near Whitby a short time
ago in which not only all the persons onboard perish-
ed but all the lifeboat's men who went totheirassii-
tanceexceptone. The calamity was caused by tho
drunkenness of the crew most of whom were in a
state of intoxication at the time.

.Qo.ttos Manufactures. In looking over a
late number ol the Boston .Uaily Advertiser we find
-an extract of a. speech delivered by Robert Greg
Esq. of Macbester England largely interested in
cotton manufactures. The speech which is very
lengthy states thst there are in the United States
nine hundred cotton mills; that a capital of 850000-
000 is invested in the cotton manufacture; that there
are in operation nearly 400000 looms which pro-
duce 258 millions of yards in a year The Lowell
mills which consume 60000 bales out of 300000
(the total consumption produce a greater quantity
ofyarn and cloth by. each spindle and each loom in
a given time than is produced by any other mills in
the world.
Mr. Greg goes on to show that we" can in ihe
United Stales produce coarse domestic drills and
every thing of that kind at least one penny and a half
per pound cheaper thaa they can in England tie
