Mr. A. M. Blackman, Chief Sup-
i ervisor of Texas High Schools, has
written President Evens recently,
congratulating him on the fact that
by a vote of his fellows he has
been re-elected to represent the
seven Teachers Colleges of Texas
on the State Committee for Class-
ifying and Accrediting the High
Schools of Texas. President Evans
has been elected to this position
successively since 1921.
The Committee on Classification
cinsists of fifteen members, a rep-
resentative being chosen or appoin-
ted from each of the following
schools or groups: University of
Texas, Agricultural and Mechani-
cal College, College of Industrial
Arts, Texas Technological College,
State Teachers Colleges, senior in-
dependent colleges, junior inde-
pendent colleges, superintendents
of schools of more than 1000 scho-
lastic enrollment, superintendents
of schools of less than 1000 scho-
lastic enrollment, large high
schools, small high schools, county
superintendents, junior high
schools, and municipal junior col-
leges. The State Superintendent
of Public Instruction, S. M. N.
M'arrs, is chairman of the commit-
tee. The terms of all members of
the committee are for two years.
Southwest Texas State Teachers

On February 12, in the genuine
Valentine spirit, the Men’s Faculty
Club entertained the members of
the Women’s Faculty Club at their
annual banquet in the College Cafe-
teria.
At eight o’clock the guests be-
gan to search for their places at
the table beautifully decorated with
red carnations, potted plants, and
tall red candles. After the invo-
cation by Rev. W. G. Brandstet-
ter, Mr. Shands, presiding, called
upon Mr. Boucher to deliver the
address of welcome. Mr. Boucher
presented this festivity in the name
the “dream man” of 41 component
parts, whose total age was 1604
years. This giant could recline on
the Science Building, with his feet
touching the Ed Building, his head
resting on the Library Building,
with ash tray on the H. E. Build-
ing, and hang his monthly bills on
the turrets of the Main Building.
Mrs. Votaw, president of the Wo-
men’s Faculty Club, responded very
graciously as the leader of the
“complement” to this “dream man.”
After the second course Mr.
Shands announced that the music

First Amateur Production of This
Well-Known Drama in
the South.
After having credibly presented
one production this term, The Col-
lege Theatre is soon to be back on
the scene with the production of
the best drama that has sprung
out of the World War, “Journey’s
End.” Promptly at 8:10 on the
nights of February 26 and 27 the
curtain will rise on the first ama-
teur production of this drama in
the South. Although this is the
first effort of Sherriff at writing
for the stage, he has already taken
his place along with Eugene O’-
Neill because of this poignant
tragedy.
According to Mr. Lippman, the
director, the setting will be a re-
plica of professional and movie
productions. Authentic costumes
are being secured from one of the
largest costume houses in New
York. This will add much to the
production, and assist the cast in
appearing at its best.

followed by Gurlitt’s “Overture des
Marionettes”. After the next
course, W. G. Brandstetter, Jr.
played two trombone solos; “Trom-
bone Comedy” and an arrangement
of two familiar old airs, “Believe
Me If All Those Endearing Young
Charms” and “Drink to Me Only
With Thine Eyes.”
After the final course, a plate
presenting frosted valentines to
the guests, Mr. Shands called upon
Mr. Burkholder to present the
speaker of the evening, the Rev-
erend S. L. Joekel of the Austin
Theological Seminary. Mr. Burk-
holder promised the guests a “real-
ly truly” after dinner speech, and
Dr. Joekel made the promise good,
as his talk was not only witty but
full of thought besides. He spoke
of the value of get-together meet-
ings and of the need of specializa-
tion and cooperation in this machine
age.

As he modestly expressed it, “My
only experience to qualify me for
this has been the reading of
Shakespeare to my classes.”
Hugh Williamson, the author of
“Bee Says Yeah”, does not need to
be introduced to local audiences,

Last night, February the seven-
teenth, marked the date of the
first production of a Shakespeare
drama on our stage. The unus-
ual feature was brought to our
campus by the Shakespeare Play-
ers of New York City. The two
leading roles were carried by the
directors, James Hendrickson and
Claire Bruce, and supported by a
cast weak in some spots and strong
in others. In fact, Macbeth and
Lady Macbeth both had their weak-
nesses. The former was probably
the stronger, but unfortunately his
cast did not act up to him.
The Witch scene was very ef-
fective. The drunken porter scene
was not without its merits, and
created a great deal of amusement.
The Shakespeare Players have
given productions in many state
universities and colleges and have!
been very favorably criticized. For
this reason, perhaps, our expec-
tations were placed too high, and
if there were any disappointments
they were due to this fact. The at-
tention of the aiidience was held
until the end, however, and much
credit is due to the Shakespeare
Players for the many merits of
the production.
The Bobcats buried the N.T.S.T.C. Eagles of Denton Sat-
urday night under a 31-19 blanket. The locals were in top

Brandt and Captain Gensberg also
had their eyes on the basket. Their
deadly shooting at long range early
in the game did much to dishearten
the opposition. The Eagles scored
but a single field goal in the first
period, trailing 18 to 5 at the half.
In spite of Denton’s unsuccess-
ful season, followers of the game
still believed she packed a knock-
out punch. The fans expected to
witness a thrilling contest Satur-
day night, but they were sorely
disappointed. The heralded floor
game and teamwork of the Eagles
did not materialize. Their plays,
beautifully conceived, failed con-
sistently thru poor execution.
Helpless before the onslaught of
the Shandsmen, and grown des-
perate as the game waned, the
North Texas cast overboard all
semblance of team strategy and
resorted to “individual stuff” with
the main actor, the
crack forward accounting for ten
of his team’s 16 tallies.
A lack of aggressiveness under
both baskets and inability to rea-
lize basket opportunities stood out
as the chief weakness of the oppo-
sition. Their defense was not as
weak as the result indicates, many
of the Bobcat goals being scored
from the corners or fired over the
defense.
Ed Horton’s last year’s football
captain, was brought to the game
in an ambulance and looked on
from a stretcher in the stands.
The line-up:
All of us have probably heard of
the man in “The Maker of Dreams”
who fared far hunting mushrooms,
only to find them at his own door-
step. And most of us have, heard
of and probably laughed at the
mythical Miss Perkins, who, doting
on gherkins, bought an X-ray so
that she could picture her inter-
nal workings. But it has remain-
ed for Mrs. Sallie Buster, a stu-
dent in Dr. Smith’s advanced bio-
logy class, to discover, almost with-
in a stone’s throw of the labora-
tory, in studying something else,
a family of crustaceans that has
the legendary Miss Perkins skinned
a city block, in that they don’t
need an X-ray to give us a sight' Cummins as
of their internal workings individ-
ually, plain sun’s rays being suffi-
cient.
Heretofore, when studying the
circulatory system of an animal,
students of biology or physiology
have had to dissect a frog, stretch
a membrane of the mesentery
across the cardboard, and try to
follow the circulation of the blood.
Although much can be observed
and learned by this demonstration,
one can imagine how much more in-
teresting it would be to observe the
circulation of the blood of a real,
transparent living organism, with-
out having to disturb the life of
the body whatsoever.
The small animal, called the Hy-
alella Knickerbockeri, is a form of
crustacean. In some ways it re-
sembles the crayfish, having the
same number of swimmerets, but
with seven pairs of working legs,
no europods, and. no telson. An-
other remarkable diff erence is that
this animal has red blood cor-
puscles, whereas those of the cray-
fish are of another color. This
hyalella grows in fresh water and
is most commonly found on duck-
weed. Being a transparent organ-
ism, its physiological functions
may be readily observed, of which
the following are most visible: the
heartbeat, the circulatory system
throughout, peristalsis, digestion,
action of the skeletal muscles. Bio-1
logy students here are enthusias-
tic over its possibilities for study
and hope to discover more about
it after closer and more careful
observation.
Mrs. Buster’s find has, therefore,
made easily available for labora-
tory study millions of excellent
specimens for demonstrating in
laboratories the main physiological
processes. Many people get pleas-
ure out of watching the motor of
an automobile in all its processes
from the time it starts until it
stops, observing all of its mechan-
isms. Not so many are interested
in biological specimens as evidenc-
ing similar processes that go on
within the human organism. But
to all science students, especially
those who expect to learn more
about the physiological processes
and functions of the human body,
Mrs. Buster’s find will be a sub-
ject of continuing interest. She
is to be congratulated on her dis-
covery, even if it was largely un-
