Fancy ladies
The 1998 Trojanette Volleyball team and coaches smile in style. The team has
sung Reba McEntire's song Fancy before every game this year. Fancy was the
favorite song of Lane Fenoglio, niece of coach Diane Conrady, who was killed in
a car accident just before the start of the Volleyball season.

Top ranked Windthorst beat #3
Abbott 15-13, 15-4, and downed
Milano after an extensive match, 15-
9,10-15,15-12, to win the Regional
Championship and continue their sea-
son long hold on the #1 ranking.
After Father Chris Davis blessed the
girls at court side, Janet Wolf en-
thused the crowd when she sang the
National Anthem and the game was
underway. Windthorst fell behind 5-
1 after 4 bad hits and a bad pass to start
out the game against Abbott. The
Trojanettes quickly found themselves
trailing 11-4. On Shelbie Schenk's
service, the Trojanettes evened the
score 11-11, with 4 kills and 2 block
stuffs from Heather Schreiber and a
back row kill from Kelly Horn. After
several Abbot errors, Windthorst won
15-13, on Jana Vieth's block stuff. In
the second game, Windthorst jumped
to a 10-0 lead on 5 Heather Schreiber
kills and 3 kills from Kelly Horn.
Schreiber and Shelbie Schenk added 2
blocks to round out the scoring. An
out-of-rotation error after the side out
rattled Windthorst as Abbott scored 4
straight. A kill by Schenk got the
Trojanettes the ball back, and they
scored 4 straight points on Jana Vieth's
serve.
The Regional championship was
harder to come by. Windthorst took a
13-2 lead in the first game behind
strong play from Heather Schreiber
and Kelly Horn. Milano scored 6
straight to make the score 13-7 and
inched their way to 9 after a bad pass
and an illegal hit by Windthorst. Kills
by Heather Schreiber gave them the
side out and game point.
The second game was a role reversal
as the Trojanettes found themselves
behind 9-0. Hitting errors plagued the
Trojanettes, until Shelbie Schenk hit a
ball down the line for a kill and the
first side out. Windthorst trailed 11-1
before they're comeback attempt fell
short 15-10.
In a long third game, with 29
sideouts, the Trojanettes never trailed
except at 3-4. Windthorst took the
lead 10-4 on 3 kills and a block from
Heather Schreiber and kills by Horn
and Schenk. Amber Schreiber and
Jana Vieth also had several saves to
help the run. Milano again challenged
the Trojanettes evening the score at
12-12. After a Windthorst time-out,
Heather Schreiber finished the match
off with 4 consecutive kills. Kelly
Horn passed 59 of 69 balls to target for
an 86%. Amber Schreiber was 42 of
49, also 86%, and Shelbie Schenk was
28 of 37 for 76%. Coach Conrady was
very pleased with the defensive play
of these primary passers. Heather
Schreiber was the leading hitter for
the Trojanettes in both games. She
had 38 kills, 27 assists, and 18 blocks
on the weekend. Kelly horn had 16
kills, 2 saves, and 4 blocks for the
tournaments, and Jana Vieth had 7
kills and 35 assists.
Heather Schreiber and senior Am-
ber Schreiber were named to the all-
tournament team.
The Trojanettes will travel to Aus-
tin to meet Overton Friday at the
Burger Center at 8:30 a.m.
