Christmas Parade Set For Saturday

The Canton Texas
Chamber of Commerce
will ring in the holidays
with fun downtown on
Saturday, December 8,
starting at 4:30p.m.
Activities scheduled for
the day include vendor
booths, hot dogs, a parade
and pictures with Santa.
In addition to various
arts & crafts booths, there
will be a hot dog booth set
up sponsored by
Brookshire’s in Canton.
Proceeds from the sale of
Downtown
Windows
Set To Be
Judged

Canton Main Street
will be hosting a holiday
window decorating con-
test for merchants on the
downtown square today
(December 6).
Scoring will be done
on a points program and
awarded for color, use of
space, merchandise dis-
play, theme and lighting.
Extra points are given
for clean windows and
weed-free sidewalks.
The window judges
will be from out-of-town
and will visit businesses
after 5 p.m.
Main Street will award
first place with $250, sec-
ond place with $ 150 and
third place with $100.

Santa Claus
To Visit
Reclamation
Station
Santa Claus is just one
of many Christmas treats
scheduled at Reclama-
tion Station on Friday,
December 7 for their
Annual Christmas Open
House.
Refreshments a bake
sale, special Christmas
decoration ideas and a
gift basket sale are some
of the activities planned.
The open house will
start at 10 a.m. and con-
clude at 5 p.m. Santa
will visit at noon and be
available for pictures.
Toddlers and pre-school
children are encouraged
to come and bring their
parents.

for $5 will go to benefit the
chamber.
The vendors will be set
up on North Buffalo Street
for shoppers to do their
Christmas shopping and
enjoy holiday music.
Also, the Canton Main
Street Board of Directors
will also be giving away
popcorn in front of the
Plaza Museum located at
119 N. Buffalo, from 4:30-
6:30 p.m.
The evening will wrap
up with a Christmas pa-
rade starting at 6:30 p.m.
The parade will be led by
the East Texas Patriot
Guard Riders on motor-
cycles and followed by the
Grand Marshall float
which will feature World
War II Veterans from Van
Zandt County followed by
other Veterans from the
area.
Special guest stars for the
parade will be Santa and
Mrs. Claus coming from
the North Pole to be a part
of the Christmas parade
and visit with area chil-
dren.
As always, the parade
will have a line-up of en-
tries from Canton and the
surrounding area.
There will be six awards
given to winners. They in-
clude Best In Parade: first
place-$200, second place-
$ 150 and third place-$ 125.
Also, BestYouth-$75, Best
Auto-$75, and Best Ani-
mal/Horse-$75.
This year’s parade theme
will be honoring the Veter-
ans in the community.
Line up for parade par-
ticipants starts at 5:30 p.m.
Everyone signed up to par-
ticipate should meet at Can-
ton Junior High.
The deadline for parade
entries is December 7 at 5
p.m.
The Canton Junior High
Choir will perform on the
stage located on North
Buffalo, following the pa-
rade.
Following the parade,
Santa and Mrs. Claus will
be available for pictures
inside the Plaza Museum.
Visitors may bring their
own camera for pictures or
purchase a holiday Christ-
mas picture package from
the Canton Texas Cham-
ber of Commerce for $ 10.
Proceeds will benefit the
chamber.

thing that we can grow and
will become a tradition, and
be more of a celebration
for the holiday s in Canton,’ ’
chamber president Mercy
Rushing said. “We want to
invite everyone to down-
town Canton to enjoy the
holidays.”

mas season with
lights and deco-
rations. This
Friday, the Main
Street will be
hosting a win-
dow decorating
contest for
downtown
businesses, and
Saturday after-
noon, the Can-
ton Texas Cham-
ber of Com-
merce will host
activities as well
as a lighted
Christmas
parade for
everyone to
enjoy. Santa and
Mrs. Claus are
scheduled to
make an appear-
ance and take
time out of their
busy holiday
schedule to visit
with children at
the Plaza Mu-
seum.
