well under way.
Two seats on the city council as well as the mayor’s
seat will expire this year.
City council members whose terms are set to ex-
pire include Vicki Marshall Chambless and Candice
Benson, as well as, mayor Cary Hilliard.
Chambless, Benson and Hilliard have all served
on the council for two years.
On Tuesday, city secretary Julie Seymore reported
that both incumbent council members had refiled for
their seats on the council.
As for the mayor’s seat, former Canton Mayor and
former Van Zandt County Judge Richard William
“Rick” Lawrence had turned in his application as a
candidate for that position.
Terms on the city council are for two years.
School board positions set to expire include Posi-

Kym Phillips and Position 5 held by Mike Malouf.

Cindy Lide’s class really took on the part of old people dressing up for the 100th day of school last
week. This is a tradition every year in first grade at Canton Elementary School which not only the
students participate in, but also many of the teachers.
