Austin November 3 1851.
Bo it remombored that on this the third day of November
in the year of our Lord ono thousand eight hundred mid fiity-
rnxo being the day set apart by law for the biennial meeting of
the Legislature the Senate of the Stato of Texas convened at
tho Capitol of said State in the City of Austin when and

Tho lion. John A. Greer Lieutenant-Governor and ex officio
President of the Senate took tho Chair and called tho Senate to
order.
Mr. N. 0. Raymond was appointed Secretary pro few. and
Mr. Thomas Ward Scrgcant-atArms pro tern.
Tho roll of Senators elect being called by District the fol-
lowing gontlomen appeared and presented their credentials and
boingqualiiicd took their seats.
From District No. 1 composed of tho counties of Red River
and Bowie Joseph II. Burks.
From District No. 3 composed of the counties of Cooke
Grayson Denton Collin and Dallas Sam. Bogart.
From District No. 4 composed of the counties of Hopkins
Hunt Kaufman and Van Zandt Uardin Hart.
From District No. 5 composed of the counties of Titus and
Cass M D. K. Taylor.
.From District No. G composed of the counties of Navarro
Henderson and Limestone Georgo W. Hill.
From District No. 7 composed of tho counties of Cherokee
and Anderson Isaac Parker.
From District No. 8 composed of the counties of Rusk and
Smith Stephen Reaves.
From District No. 9 composed of the counties of Harrison
and Upshur William T. Scott.
From District No. 10 composed of the counties of San Au-

Tho roll of Senators being called and a quorum present on
motion of Mr. Parker tho Senato proceeded td its organization
by tho election of its Oflicers.
Tho nominations for Secretary being in order Mr. Burleson
nominated Mr. N. 0. Raymond.
Mr. Grimes nominated Mr. W. D. Miller.
Mr. Dancy nominated Mr. Geo. W. Breeding.
Tho ballot being taken Mr. Raymond received nine votes
Mr. Miller ton votes and Mr. Breeding two votes. No one
candidato having received a majority of tho wholo number of
votes tho Senato proceeded to a second balloting whereupon
Mr. Raymond received ten votes Mr. Miller" ten votes and
Mr. Breeding ono vote. No one candidate having a majority
of all tho votes the Senate proceeded to a third" balloting
whereupon Mis Raymond received ten votes Mr. Miller ten
votes and Mr. Breeding ono vote. No one candidate having
yet received a majority of all the A'otes the Senate proceeded
to a fourth balloting whereupon Mr. Raymond received ten
votes and Mr. Miller eleven votes.
Mr. Miller having received a majority of all tho votes was
declared duly and constitutionally elected Secretary of tho
Senate. '
Tho election of an Assistant Secretary being next in order
Mr. Dancy nominated Mr. James F. Johnson and their being
no other nomination
On motion of Mr. Grimes Mr. Johnson was declared duly
and constitutionally elected Assistant Secrotary of tho Senate.
Tho election of Engrossing Clerk being next'in order
Mr. Taylor nominated Mr. Swan.
Mr. Armstrong nominated Mr. Goodlet.
Mr. Bigelow " Mitchell.
Mr. Eddy
Mr. Burleson " "

Mr. Dancy
Mr. Swan received two votes
Fauutleroy two votes; Mr. Star iivo votes; Mr
votes; and .air. uooaiett ono vote.
t s No ono candidate having received a majority of all tho votes
'the Senate proceeded to a second balloting: whereupon Mr.
Swan received two votes; Mr. Mitchell four ; Mr. Anderson 1 ;
Mr. Fauntleroy 2 ; Mr. Starr G ; Mis Wallace 5 ; and Mr. Good-
lott 1 vote.
There being no olection tho Senato proceeded to a 3d ballot-
ing : whereupon tho names of Messrs. Swan and Goodlett being
withdrawn tho voto stood for Mr. Mitchell six; for Mr. An-
derson 2 ; for Mr. Fauntleroy 3 ; for Mr. Starr 5 ; and for Mr.
Wallace 5.
Mr. William M. Williams Senator from District No. 2
composed of tho counties of Fannin and Lamar appeared pre-
sented his credentials was qualified and took his seat
Thoro being no election the Senate proceeded to a 4th ballot-
. iug when tho voto was as follows : For Mr. Mitchell 7 ; for
Mr. Fauntleroy 3 ; for Mr. Starr 7; and for Mr. Wallace 5.
loting; when it appeared that Mr. Mitchell received 8 votes;
Mr. Fauntleroy 3 ; Mr. Starr 7 ; and Mr. Wallace 4.
There being still no election tho Senate proceeded to a sixth
balloting; the name of Mr. Fauntleroy being withdrawn the
result was as follows: Mr. Mitchell received 10 votes; Mr.
Starr !) ; and Mr. Wallace 3.
There being yet no election tho Senate proceeded to a 7th
balloting ; when Mr. Mitchell received eleven votes ; Mr. Starr
10 and Mr. Wallace 1.
No one candidate having received a majority of all the votes
tho Senato proceeded to the Sth balloting: whereupon Mr.
Mitchell received 1 1 votes ; Mr. Starr 9; and Mr. Wallace 1.
Mr. Nathan Mitchell having received a majority of all the
votes was accordingly declared duly and constitutionally
elected.
The election of Enrolling Clerk being next in order
Mr. Day nominated Mr. Clopton.

" Sterne " " Kelly.
" Burleson " " Gray.
Tho ballot being taken the voto was as follows : Mr. Clopton
recoived 11 votes Mr. Davis 5; Mr. Harroll 3; Mr. Kelly 1 ;
and Mr. Gray 2.
No ono candidate having received a majority of all the votes
the Senate proceeded to a second balloting ; whereupon
Mr. Clopton received 11 votes;

On motion of Mr. Burleson tho Secretary and Assistant Sec-
retary came forward and were qualified.
On motion of Mr. Burleson tho Senato adiourned until 10
o'clock to-morrow morning.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

This being the day prescribed by law for tho assembling of
the Legislature of the Stato of Texas the llouso of Representa-
tives met at the Capitol in the city of Austin at 11 o'clock
A. M. when tho Hon. Tim's Duval Secretary of State took the
chair and proceeded assisted by Jos. W. Hampton former
uniet uiencoi tno nousc to organize that body.
Tho roll of districts being called the following members ap-
peared presented their credentials took tho oath of oflice as
prescribed by tho constitution and their seats :
