and Mrs. Joe McClellan.

from Bastrop, La., where he
made a several days visit with
his daughter and family, Mr.
and Mrs. J. T. Murphy.
Miss Martie Sanders, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Jewel
Sanders, has returned from
Houston where she has been
employed for the past few
months.
Mr. yid Mrs. B. E. McGee,
who have been visiting Mr.
McGee’s parents for the past
few days left yesterday for
Kilgore where Mr. McGee is a
member of the high school
faculty. School will open in
Kilgore Sept. 7th.
Mr. and Mrs. M. B. MdGee
of this city received a tele-
phone message this morning
from their son. Staff Sergeant
Theo McGee, who is in the Fi-
nance Department at Camp
Chaffee, Ark., stating that he
would leave the 2nd of Sept,
for North Carolina, where he
will receive three months
training in Finance Depart-
ment in Duke University at
Durham, North Carolina.
Albert and Homer Corley
returned this morning from a
few days business trip to
Houston.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Myers
of Houston, have returned'
home after a few days visit
with the lady’s parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Sid Stewart of this
community.

McGee Goes to Finance
Officers Training School
Camp Chaffee, Ark., Aug.
SI.—Staff Sgt Theodore D.
McGee of Timpson, Texas,
who is in the headquarters de-
tachment at Camp Chaffee,
has been accepted for the 8-
nance officers candidate
school, Duke University, Dur-
ham, N. C., according to an
announcement made today by
Colonel Landon J. Lockett,
camp commander.
Corporal McGee was in-
ducted into the army Aug. 18,
1941.

Employes of United
Gas Service Tramcd
For Their Job*
“Each of the 1,300 employes
of United Gas Service is care-
fully trained to do his job,” C.
A. Beckham, local representa-
tive of United Gas corpora-
tion, said in a statement today.
“It is the policy of the com-
pany not only to conduct train-
ing schools and study work,
but also to train each employe
on the job by careful supervi-
sion," the company official
said.
"Working like a vast ma-
chine, the hundreds of skilled
hands in our company are de-
dicated now to one all-impor-
tant job—that of helping to
win the war.
“United Gas men and wom-
en employes are all devoting
their skill to the job of render-
ing dependable gas service to
war production industries, and
to the homefolks who back
up their fihting men.”
At least 90 per cent of the
214 members of the June
graduating class in business
administration is now employ-
ed, reveals Dr. J. A. Frtxger-
ald, dean of the School of Bus-
iness Administration.

Washington, Aug. 31. (UP)
—Congress may be asked to
establish a uniform national
selective service quota system
to make certain that no local
board is forced to draft men
with dependents while boards
in other parte of the country
have ample reserves of eligible
single men.
Sen. Robert A. Taft, B., O.,
last night called for a nation-
alization of the draft quota
system to end widespread dis-
crepancies in the treatment of
registrants which are “inevi-
table” in the present system
under which the state is the
basic unit in determining
quotas.
He suggested in an interview
that the quota system be over-
hauled when Congress acta on
expected legislation to author-
ize military service for If) and
19 year old youths.
Selective service officials
have recommended a pooling
arrangement among local
boards within each state to
assure the drafting of all sin-
