Washington, Nov. 19. (UP)
—Director of Defense Trans-
portation Jaseph B. Eastman
today began a nationwide
program to keep the Ameri-
can public at home.
The "don’t travel” appeal is
being worked oot by the ODT
in collaboration with the As-
sociation of American Rail-
roads and the National Asso-
ciation of motor Bus operators
iii an effort to call attention
’ “to the gravity of the passen-
. ger transportation problem
and to show what must be
done to solve it.”
"The time is here,” East-
man said, “when all American
people must understand,
what many of them now real-
ize. that unnecessary travel

can do real and serious harm |
to the war effort.”
Eastman explained that “itj By virtue of an order of gaie
is not easy” to a*k the public j QUt of tbe Durtnct Court
to refrain from traveling at
Thanksgiving or Christmas
time.
“Many families look for-
ward through the year to
these annual reunions, but I
| mutt ask that these family
gatherings be foregone this
year if they involve travel,”
Eastman said.
Go Buy a Bond and then
some more. THAT’S one way
to win this war!

HELD III DEMUR!
London, Nov. 19. (UP)—
Radio Rome said today that
Gen. Maxime Weygand has
been arrested and taken to
Germany.
The Italian report was at-
tributed to “authoritative cir-
cles in Berlin.”
The Rome report quoted the
German sources as saying
"one Ciraud, (Gen. Henri Gi-
raud, French war hero now
leading the French Allied
forces in North Africa) is quite
enough for us.”
Shortage of wagon and har-
ness makers and horseshoeing
facilities is impeding increas-
ed use of horse-drawn vehi-
cles. the Department of Com-
merce says.
