editor’s NOTE: Th* laBawfa# write trying to take over Texas. Now in
..... ““ t"*"’ " the critical moment they have long
been waiting for.
Texas is the strategic point , for
the communist-infiltrated labor
unions to seize the greatest state
in the Union. Texas has long been
on the program of the communist
leaders of the various infiltrated
institutions. Ever closer and closer
the evil* of communist-inspired
strikes and terror have been ap-
proaching our beloved state. At
least they have dared to strike
in ail the ugliness of rioting some
beautiful coastal cities of Texas.
It has happened here!
The Port Arthur and Marshall
turmoil of last week tr only a
forestate of what Texas can .ex-
pect if : the candidate backed by
the CIO is elected governor of
Texas. What a predicament then
the old-time loyal Democrats will
be in, including Sam Rayburn of
Bonham, who although a great man
ill many ways has erred in “going
along" with a political machine
which has long ago abandoned true
Democracy as the South believed
in it. They will know that they
helped bring in the era of lawless-
ness in the fair state of Texas, al-
though not intending to do so.
If every'voter in Texas should
vote for Gov, Shivers and he be-
came Governor again unanymous-
iy, even then the state would have
a battle on its hands, in defeating
the purposes of the CIO-Mind you,
the CIO has tried to clean itself
up during the pest few years, by
disowning known communists. But

BY CELI* M. WRIfiHT
Many people in Texas today do
not truly understand the factors
involved in the race for Governor
of the state. I doubt whether any
of us understands these complete-
ly. Much confusion has been cast
over the political scerte, and this
is no accident. The most patriotic
citizen, the most loyal Texan has
sufficient problems to perplex him
in considering the issues involved
without added party conflict.
But this party conflict has grown
so painful that you hate to turn
on your radio to^the candidates’
speeches. You cannot possibly be-
lieve ALL that is said, because
most pf the statements are contra-
dictory as between Mr. Yarborough
and Governor Shivers. Stepping
hack a bit from the heat of the
battle, and surveying what has
brought about this confusion, you
gain a true perspective.,. You real-
ize that the principles involved
are much more compelling than
so-calied "party loyalty.”
Time was when the Democratic
Party was in the hands jof uncor-
ruptible men, men with/true dem-
ocratic ideals and practices. We
are proud to be the inheritors of
such a rich, patriotic heritage.
Times have changed, however,
MB ..
our national life was hanging in
the balance.
1 have seen it happen myself and
ifelt its sorrow.»For the sake of
your state and your children’s fu-
ture, cast off the false claims of,
“party loyalty” by your vote for
Governor Shivers, and get that
awful terror strife out *of Texas
as fast as possible.

in are the writer’s own, and do not

and the Democratic Party is in the i{ j9 9tm being dominated by the
hands of men who believe that
“You must go along” with party
machinery and expediency in or-
der to be a Democrat. You must
go along with all the mistakes of
irresponsible politicians in high of-
fice, the men who by their blunders
sold half the world into Commu-
nist slavery and lost 130,000 men
in Korea — you must still go along
following like sheep the nominal
head of a political party or you
are not a true Democrat, they
say.
As clear-eyed citizens, wc do
not approve altogether of the Re-
publican Party either. Wc voted
for Mr, Eisenhower as the better
of two questionable presidential
candidates. We believe in his hon-
esty and high moral character, his
earnestness, his greatness. We are
thankful for these qualities. No
matter what mistakes the President
makes, we’ know that he does not
make them through graft and cor
ruption. i
And now,’today, in the Texas
gubernatorial race between- ^yr
valiant Governor Shivers and the
left-wing Mr. Yarborough, ail the
loyal Texans who voted
dent Eisenhower two years ago
are being whipped around that old
whipping post of party loyalty,
Gov. Shivers has been called al-
most everything under the sun be
s-cause he saved Texas from the
Tanks of the real enemies of the
South — such men as Senator
Humphries, Franklin D. Roosevelt,
Jfr. and other*.
I, fot one, am proud of a gov-

Texas’ interest ahead of “going

The CIO' has decided it ia the
moment (^Mganize labor in Tex-
as, and yoT can be certain we
are in for a battle, against the
most cunning, crafty, and con-
scienceless warfare ever seen here.
The CIO promises higher wages,
and often get* them, and then-
bleeds the members by increased
dues, useless strikes, and violence.
The CIO is supporting, Mr. Yar-
borough. ‘ ___
As all my readers know* I am
not against the proper and wise
advancement of the Colored. Folk.
I believe in their rights and their
abilities, they, however, will not
gain any real progress by joining
hands with the CIO under what-
ever name.
Lest we be misunderstood, let
it be said here that the majority
of the members of the CIO and its
many affiliates are loyal, true
Americans. They are simply caught
in a webb they cannot throw off
if they would hold their jobs.
It is the minority of commu-
nists leaders who is directing all
this strife in America. An organi-
sed and fanatical minority can dis-
rupt America, aa it has disrupted
and destroyed whole nation* al-
ready. It can utterly^ wipe out the
friendly freedom of Texas. L*t us
not cast our vote for a man who
is under obligation. to the CIO

All Of the above sounds postiye-

But, sgd to say, it is true. It has
already happened around the
