“Matter” is the subject of
the lesson-sermon which will
be read in all Churches of
Christ, Scientist, on Sunday,
March 21.
The Golden Text is: “It is
the spirit that quickeneth; the
flesh profiteth nothing.” (John
6:63).
Among the citations which
comprise the Lesson-Sermon is
the following from the Bible:
“Be ye not unequally yoked
together with unbelievers: for
what fellowship hath righte-
ousness with unrighteousness?
and what community hath
light with darkness?” (II
Corinthians 6:14).
The Lesson-Sermon also in-
cludes the following passage
from the Christian Science
textbook, “Science and Health
with Key to the Scriptures,” by
Mary Baker Eddy: "The three
great verities of Spirit, omni-
potence, omipresence, omni-
science,—Spirit possessing all
power, Ailing all space, con-
stituting all Science,—contra-
dict forever the belief that
matter can be actual.” (Page
109).

HARVESTING THE OATS
College Station.—To harvest
the oats for grain or hay, or
let the dairy cows harvest it,
is a question which many
farmers debate about this time
of year.
According to E. R. Eudaly,
dairyman for the A. and M.
College Extension Service,
there is a slightly larger mar-
gin of profit in harvesting it
for hay, provided conditions
are favorable. On the other
hand no harvesting expense or
manual labor are involved
when the cows do it More-
over, feed often lost during
bad weather at harvest time
is saved.
ft is Eudaly’s opinion that it
will pay farmers who have an
ample supply of good perma-
nent pasture and sufficient la-
bor to harvest their oats. But
if sufficient permanent pas-
ture is lacking it would be pro-
fitable to give the pasture a
rest and let. the cows harvest
the oats. By doing this good
pasture would be available
after the oats grazing plays
out It also would hold the
milk production longer at
much less cost because pas-
ture is the cheapest feed for
milk cows.
There is another important
benefit in keeping dairy cows
on oats pasture until the mid-
dle of May or the first of June,
Eudaly says. They will be pro-
tected against eating bitter-
weed which is prevalent in
many permanent pastures in
the spring. As milk from cows
which have eaten the weed
cannot be sold, it causes a
heavy loss to producers year-
ly. Eudaly believes that
farmers will be well paid for
the oats pasture if they can
avoid that loss. Later, after
the bstterweed has grown
above the grass, cows seldom
eat tt.
When permanent pasture is
not available farmers can
have sudan grass ready for
grazing by the time the oats
pasture plays out Sudan, the
dairyman says, la wrath aa
much per acre as oat*. But to
play safe, one acre of'sudan
should be provided for each
cow.
