The city of Hondo and the Hondo
Police Department will be offering
the Citizens Police Academy after
the first of the year. The classes will
be held at the Hondo Public Police
Substation at702 Harper from 6 - 9
p.m. onThunday nights beginning
Jan. 30.1997.
"We chose to hold the classes on
Thursday to accomodate the sched-
ules of nuniy of the people who
have expressed interest in the class
and other obligations prevented
their participation," Chief Marvin
Ivy said.
Most of the instructors will come
from the Hondo Police Dept, as well
as other law enforcements entities
from Medina County.
Some of the topics scheduled to be
discussed include traffic laws, crime
prevention programs, K-9 and drug
enforcement, firearm safety, crime
scene search and game laws and
wildlife preservation. The class has
also tentatively scheduled tours of
the Medina County Sheriffs Depart-
ment and prisons in Hondo.
A minimum of ten students will be
required to make a class and the
maximum size will be limited to 25.
There is no fee involved and physical
limitations should not be a factor.
CPAgraduates willnotbe qualified
to be police officeo, but will come
awa)r with a better understanding of
the complexities of police work in a
modem society.
Plans call for the formation for a
Citizen Police Academy Alumni
Association, which will be an asset
used insetting up Crime Prevention
Programs, and helping with volun-
teer projects.
Applications are available at the
Hondo Police Department. The staff
of the Hondo Police Dept, encorages
everyone to attend.

ina County Jail population consists
of 25 prisoners in Hondo. A total of
21 inmates are being detained in
Atascosa County and two remaining
in Rio County.
• Approval was granted to a con-
tract between Medina County and
Werner Stinson for pit run road ma-
terial. "
• Commissioners approved a pro-
posal from America’s Computers for
$6,498.30 to upgrade the main com-
puter system in the County Clerk's
office.
• An agreement between Medina
County and AACOG for cash pay-
ment in lieu of donated commodities
was approved.

will not meet Dec. 30.1996.
Six graduate in third
Citizens Police Academy
Chief Marvin Ivy has announced
the graduation of Bryan Hartnett,
Kimberly Newbury, Linda Sills,
Rosie Guerra, Melissa Blankenship,
and George Sisneros, Jr. from the
third Hondo Citizen's Police Acad-
emy.
They join 11 former graduates of
the Citizen's Police Academy in-
cluding: Dennis Batt,GenaChemak,
Trini Cuellar, Charles Hoffman, Jim
Ferguson, Linda Graff, Frances and
Paul Guinn, Cecil Langford, Sarah
Moss and Robert Yoes. Together
these 17 members form the Alumni
Association of the Hondo Citizen's
Police Academy. . V '
This group adopts different proj-
ects throughout the year as they see
fit. Proposed projects include spear-
heading local recognition of the
Police''Appreciation Week in mid
May, assisting with the National
Night Out Program in August, and
acting as Neighborhood Watch Cap-
tains. Other projects such as TRIAD
and Cellular on Patrol (COPS), are in
the planning stages.
If you would like to become a
member of the Alumni Association,
you must attend and graduate from a
series of classes of the Citizen's Po-
lice Academy. The next class
(Tbug&ay nights) begins in late
January 1997 and applications are
available at Hondo P.D.
