telephone problems
Two Southwestern Bell Tele-
phone Company representatives vis-
ited with Medina County Commis-
sioners Monday in an attempt to an-
swer questions raised last week
about telphone service. Sheriff
Wesley Scott told the court that re-
sponse time for emergency calls to
surrounding communities is too
slow because of the time lapse re-
quired by long distance service.
The court was advised that, in or-
der to take advantage of cheaper
long distance rates, callers would
have to endure pauses as the equip-
ment dials access codes. However,
alternatives such as bypass codes
were also pointed out and will be
discussed with the sheriff.
County Judge Dcnald "Butch'’
Campsey asked Mr. Campos to do
a survey to determine the feasibility
of using Southwestern Bell djmet
service for emergency calls.
Also discussed was the 9-1-1
service which is currently being
paid for by telephone subscribers in
Medina County, but is not yet
scheduled to be ■'installed. Ka; r.
O'Neill, who is the non- !;ng

The tradition of Thanksgiving
A gift to our children
By Kathy Adlong
Anvil Herald SUIT
For most the meaning of Thanksgiving is part of a tradition handed
down from generation to generation.
The meal with all the trimmings, the family unity, the strength and
fellowship that comes from everyone being together ate the basis for
this holiday.
Are sadness, loneliness, pettiness, negative thoughts and comments
set aside on this day'1 Is happiness the main course served.’
It was for the Pilgrims and Indians on that first Thanksgiving,
They shared their food, their wealth of know ledge, their het itage and
gave thanks for their very existence.
Have we honored this tradition? Or are we giv mg our c hildren a new
tradition? One of arguing, fear, anxiety and mistrust! If we allow out
daily lives to be filled with these emotions, is it really possible to sit
down at a table and enjoy the world God has given us to enhance our
lives? ’ *
Rebuild a tradition this year: one of love, trust and fellow ship w ith
your friends, neighbors and loved ones. Yourchildren will then see the
true meaning of Thanksgiving.
