Tie-breaker takes Tivy to tourney title
It took a tie-breaker, but the Tivy
Antlers just nipped the Uvalde
Coyotes in the Hondo Golf Tourna-
ment Tuesday afternoon by the
velvet of their horns.
Both teams had shot a combined
323, but in the event of a tie, the next
score to be checked is that of the fifth
man on the team. For Kerrville’s
bunch, the fifth score was an 86, while
Uvalde carded an 88, thereby giving
Ttvy the first ptaoe *
Although Uvalde finished in second
place, they did have the low scorer in
Doug Blevins, who shot a one-over-
par 73 for the 18-hole event. Second
place medalist was Pearsall’s Adolfo
Cubriel, with a 75, while his brother
Modesto hit that once-ine-lifetime
achievement when he shot a hole-in-
one on the par-three ninth hole.
The sophomore-dominated Hondo
Owls finished in ninth place, with a
team total of STO The Owta war-
paced by Joe Valenzuela’s 84, while
Jaime Quintanilla fired a 94, and
Sesario Martinez ended with a 95.
Both Ricky Campos and Homer
Clayton each shot 97's
Del Rio finished in third place with
a 334, while Fredericksburg, Eagle
Pass, and Devine were bunched
together in the 340’s.
For Devine, Mark Moeller had the
low score, with an 81, with Marc
Lascano, Royd Graham, and Shane
Elms adding an 83, 89, and 93,
Randolph and Medina Valley took
seventh and eighth places. Low man
for the Par.! hers was Bill Tschirhart
with an 80. Lee Aitken added an 82,
with Pat Echtle coming in at 98, and
Steve Tedford shooting a 104.
Lackland and Boerne rounded out
the team standings, with several

in Devine at the Devine Invitational
Hondo fired a teamtoal 422, which
put them in third behind Lockhart
(405) and Eagle Pass (406). Devine
